Giving Thanks for 2014

Published December 31, 2014 by Lorraine Nelson - Author

A hearty and heart-felt ‘Hello’ to all my followers!

Another year is ending in just a few hours and here I am at home with my family, including two of my grandchildren, Sammy, age 10, and Alexis, age 4. I wouldn’t want to be anywhere else.

I love spending time with family whether it be in conversation, baking their favorite treats, cooking big meals, playing board and card games, reading, and just enjoying their company. We don’t have snow at the moment or I’d be watching them play and build snowmen, snow forts, or ride on the snowmobile with Josh, my youngest son. The weather station is forecasting a major storm on Sunday, but Sammy goes home on Saturday. That’s all right though. We’ve enjoyed his visit tremendously.

I don’t get out much at this time of year as the cold dampness plays havoc with my arthritis, but I can have hot chocolate and treats ready for when they come inside. 🙂

2014 saw the completion of my Hudson Ranch series for which my very talented sister, Sharon Wilson-Dupuis drew the covers. Aren’t they beautiful? The entire series is available in both ebook and print form on Amazon. The Inheritance

I also wrote and released another Christmas novella in October. Her Christmas Wishes is about a cowgirl, stranded at the family lodge during a blizzard when a Her Christmas Wishes 2stranger happens by. This story met with great success and I am so happy to hear that those of you who read it really enjoyed it. 🙂 About the only complaint I get on my novellas is that they are too short. lol Readers want more and that pleases me.

Most of my stories are 50,000 words or more, so I guess I can understand my reader’s expectations in that regard.

We had an excellent Christmas this year. All three of my sons and their families were present and 4 out of 6 grandchildren were able to be here for the turkey feast. I’d done plenty of baking and was able to send each one home with home-baked goodies, as I try to do every year. Mom and I get together every year and bake. This year we made Christmas Morning Loaf (a sweet, fruit bread that we love) and donuts, also a favorite. You’ll find the recipes under the recipe tab at the top of this post.

Falling in love with Jack was easy, but there is nothing easy about staying in love with Jack Storm, arrogant rock star, while settling into a new life in Los Angeles.

The story of rock couple Jack and Marissa continues.

For Jack, Marissa and Tristan in his life changes his outlook. He feels needed. He welcomes the responsibility of a family. He embraces the love and companionship. Quickly, he whisks his son and the intriguing woman he had never forgotten to his home in LA.

To Marissa, her future seems as mysterious as dusk’s shimmering shadows beneath the surface of the luxurious guitar shaped pool. There is no doubt this could be her dream house, her dream life with the man she loves. Not so dreamy is all she is beginning to see packaged with him. The crazy hours of a very active life. The garbage behind the glam. Mostly, a moody and presumptuous rock star whose public persona is opposite of the sweet musician she fell for.

This full sized novel can stand alone, but is greatly enhanced by reading Eye of the Storms.

When the next text came, I jumped in excitement.

Pulling up now. Meet me outside?
3:01 AM

Hitching my robe tighter, I started from the room in stocking feet. On a whimsy, I stopped by the guest room for, and pushed my feet into, the pair of shoes I’d worn to his drop party.Storm's Eye

Mindful of my heels and my excitement, I carefully descended the stairs even though I wanted to run. As I neared the landing, I clutched the bannister with both hands and practically leaped the last two stairs.

Tearing the front door open, I pulled up short upon seeing it. In the shadows of the night, Jack was leaning against the red Lamborghini limo.

He was even hotter than he ever had been, if that were possible. Maybe it was because the fantasy limo was his backdrop. Maybe he exuded an overload of charisma from being on tour. Maybe it was because I had not seen him in more than a week.

All I knew for sure was seeing him sucked the breath into my chest before it whooshed out again as if I had been sucker punched.

Although his features were shadows from the driveway lights, I could feel his heated perusal. His arms had been crossed over his chest, and they fell to his side as he vaulted the stone steps, two at a time, toward me.

A steady breeze was blowing, and I twisted my head so that my face was clear of my hair. Holding my robe as I continued down to him, I enjoyed the tingle buzzing through my body as I watched his hair billow about.

We crushed together, and wound together. I breathed him in as my lips moved against his chest and clamped my arms tightly around him as he nearly cut off my airflow with his own embrace.Storm's Eye

My feet left the ground, and for a second, I was spinning before he set me down and our lips came together. The fiery kiss raged, we melded tight together, and our hands roamed, leaving tingling trails.

“What are you wearing, Mariss?” Jack reclaimed his tongue long enough to speak, but was back to kissing me before I could answer.

His hands had inched up the silky robe. Beneath the fabric, they alternately groped and caressed any skin left exposed by the lingerie. Fingers glided down, toying with the stockings.

Taking a step back, I made one of the boldest moves ever in my life. Especially considering this house was prone to tree lurkers, and there was surely a driver in the limo.

In one smooth motion, I had the silken belt untied, and my body shrugged from the silky shroud. Neither of us took notice of the robe catching the wind like a kite, or if it landed.

I was too busy glowing beneath Jack’s heated gaze, and Jack was too busy stroking me from head to toe with those dark eyes.

     “Holy shit, Mariss… Just…holy fuckin’ shit…”

He swooped and I was in his arms. I didn’t notice we were going down the stairs, instead of up, until I was settled in the limo.

Jack was immediately on me for another one of those mind-bending kisses. When his lips left mine, I melted into the seat, enjoying the friction of his hands over my skin, and his wandering kisses.

We were so sex starved that it was barely five minutes later when his hopeful inquiry was a pleasurable mummer against sensitive skin, “Please tell me it’s been long enough?”

     “It’s been long enough.”

In response, for the first time since that shower five years ago, there was no scramble for a tiny foil packet. Actually, I was three days short of the recommended time for the pills in the little plastic case to get in my system, but I wasn’t worried.

His unrestricted pleasure came in a loud groan and curse, then sweet seductive words. Every movement was soon pleasurable beyond words… The feeling of him completely coming inside me for the first time—unbelievable.

As soon as Miranda was on her way, Logan and Emily climbed into his SUV and headed for the lake cabin. As they arrived, the back side of the home was deserted. They quickly ran around to the front where the coroner’s van was pulling away, followed by an ambulance without its lights on.

“Oh no,” Emily whispered. Her heart was beating so fast. She couldn’t breathe. She was going to throw up. “Russell!” she screamed. “No! Russell!” It was Daniel all over again. Only she still loved Russell. But Daniel had died because of her, so the pain of his death had been just as excruciating.

Logan grabbed her so she wouldn’t flee into the middle of the crime scene. “Calm down. It’ll be okay.”

“I’m right here, Em,” Russell said stoically as he stepped out from behind a police vehicle.

A whimper escaped her as she pulled away from Logan to run to her boyfriend. He caught her in his arms.

“Oh my God! What happened? Are you okay?” she questioned, desperately checking his torso for any signs of injury.

“I’m okay,” he murmured, pulling her close again. “I didn’t get a scratch on me.”

“What happened, big brother?” Logan asked, stepping up to them.

Will also be available at Barnes and Noble on release day, December 15th! And stay tuned for the other two books in the series – Logan’s Leap and Dylan’s Desire.

Triple Cover Reveal for JJ Ellis and TA Ellis!

A chance meet up with her childhood friend, restaurateur Russell Harper and his troubled little girl, renews her confidence in her abilities. But when the past comes bearing down, it threatens to take everything she holds dear…again.

“Good night,” she called from her porch.

Russell stopped and turned back. In two quick strides, he was standing in front of her, his hands on her shoulders. He leaned in and she pulled his head down so that their lips met in a gentle kiss. It wasn’t quite enough for either of them and they deepened it until he pulled away, breathing hard. “I’m sorry,” he stated loud and clear.

“It’s okay Russell,” she whispered.

“I swear you hypnotize me, woman,” he mumbled into the night as he walked away.

His last vision of Emily was one of her lightly rubbing her lips with her delicate fingers, against the backdrop of the little blue house and the rolling valley behind her. A vision that would haunt him throughout the night. “And I can’t help but love it,” he whispered after he was far enough away that she couldn’t hear. “But it’s so wrong.”

Next we meet Logan in Logan’s Leap. He doesn’t do relationships or family but a newborn baby could change everything for him.

He believes that love is for fools.

Logan Harper’s motto – stay away from people and you won’t get hurt. He has a successful business, his family, and a few casual friends. That’s more than enough to keep him happy. When Jayna McIntyre comes to town seeking out the Harper family, Logan is the one who comes to her rescue. What harm could come from helping a single mom? He’s an expert at knowing how to keep other people’s drama from invading his life, so helping her and sending her on her way should be easy.

She’s never stopped believing in love.

Jayna is nine months pregnant and running for her life. Her best friend’s husband sends her to his family in Harper’s Rock, Wyoming. She was expecting to find the motherly Evelyn Harper, but instead she wakes up in sexy Logan’s arms. The self-described loner truly does have a heart, as she witnesses with her newborn baby and his willingness to put their safety before his own. Forced into close quarters, with a madman on the loose, Jayna and her knight in denim armor create a bond, but it may not be strong enough to override the past.

When he pulled it open, a dark haired woman stood blinking at him. She took a step forward and started to fall. He reached out and grabbed her.

“Help me,” she whispered before passing out in his arms.

“Well Hell!” Logan exclaimed. He carried the woman into the cabin and laid her on his brother’s bed. She was breathing steadily and her belly was swollen with pregnancy. What the Hell was he supposed to do now?

Sitting down next to her, he checked her over for injuries and put his hand on her forehead. He didn’t see anything obvious and she didn’t have a fever. He needed to get her to a doctor, but he couldn’t do that on his horse. After tucking her in under the covers and leaving the food he’d made on the nightstand he ran out to his horse and headed back to his truck.

Finally we join resident playboy Dylan Harper as his world comes to an earth shattering halt.

He is used to getting what he wants…except for her

Resident Playboy and Wilderness Guide Dylan Harper lives life on his own terms until one fateful night when an accident leaves him struggling to live. The man with few regrets will come face to face with the ones he does have. The only girl to tell him no, Nicoletta Ballas, is the only one who can help him through the physical struggles and the only one who could break his heart irreparably.

She always wants what isn’t good for her

Widowed nurse Nicoletta Ballas comes home after working for three years on a cruise ship. She is immediately thrown into the world she had run from when she left for nursing school. Wild child Dylan Harper was her childhood best friend but his promiscuity came between them. Now he’s struggling, for his physical well-being and his true identity and she feels compelled to help him break free. But to do that, she must consent to face her own broken past.

“Look who decided to join us,” came the most beautiful voice he ever heard. “He is focusing on me now.”
No, it couldn’t be. He must have died and gone to Hell. Nicoletta Ballas, his one failure, the bane of his existence, the only girl he’d ever truly loved, was there.
“That’s a good sign, isn’t it,” came the most comforting voice ever. His mother’s voice. “That means he has all of his brain functions right?”
“Yes, it is a good sign, Mrs. Harper,” a strange male voice answered. “His eyes are moving as if looking for each speaker. Plus his eyes softened at the sound of your voice.”
The three Harper’s Rock Romances will be available this winter! Until then visit http://www.writerjjellis for excerpts and much more on the series.

New Christmas Release!!!

Published October 20, 2014 by Lorraine Nelson - Author

Yay!!! Amazon came through! Her Christmas Wishes is now available online in Kindle format. Did I tell you that I set up this cover myself? Pretty gosh darned good, if I do say so. 🙂

Her Christmas Wishes 2Once I got the idea for this story, I dropped everything else and ran with, completing the story in about ten hours. The words flowed onto the page so fast that my fingers had a difficult time keeping up. Gotta love it when that happens. 🙂

I posted the blurb yesterday so I thought I’d post an excerpt today. It’s my wish that you’ll enjoy reading Her Christmas Wishes as much as I enjoyed writing it.

“Is something wrong?”
“No, for a change, I think everything is just right. You are one beautiful woman, but I suppose you’ve heard that plenty of times before.”
“Well, I guess a woman can’t hear a compliment too many times, but no, just my father and my foreman and I think they we’re prejudiced in my favor,” she said as she set their plates on the table.
“Believe them. They were right. You’re so beautiful and graceful, you take my breath away.”
“Wow! Now that’s a line! What would your wife say?” she said and  giggled as she walked to the counter, returned with their tea, and sat down.
“No line and no wife or girlfriend. Can’t find one that’ll have me with all the irregular hours I keep.” He picked up his sandwich and ate hungrily, washing it down with his tea.
“Really? What kind of work do you do?” she asked, her expression curious.
“I’m a writer,” he said, watching her closely.
She all but sputtered her food across the table.
“You’re that Spence Rafferty? The true crime writer? I’ve read all your books. No wonder your name sounded so familiar.”
Grinning at her reaction, he said, “Really? You’ve read them all?”
“All forty-two of them,” she stated.
“Soon to be forty-three. I just finished approving final edits before I left home. Would you like me to autograph your copies?”
“I’d love it!” she said. Then her face fell and the animation disappeared. “But they’re at the ranch house.”
“Well, they’re bound to clear the roads when the snow stops. How about I stop in at the ranch before heading home?” Although he dearly hoped the snow continued for a few more days. He loved being stranded with such charming company.
“Fantastic! Thank you.”
“And for being such a good hostess, how about I gift you an autographed copy of the new one when it’s released?”
Erica jumped to her feet and ran to him, throwing her arms around his neck in a big hug. “Thank you, Spence! Thank you, thank you, thank you.”
“Hey, it’s only a book,” he said, laughing as he wrapped his arms around her waist. “But if I’m going to get that reaction, I’ll gift you an autographed copy of every new release from now on.”
“You think I’m silly,” she said, her lips curled downward in a pretty pout as she leaned back.
“No. On the contrary. I love your enthusiasm,” he said, pulling her closer. “And I love the feel of you pressed up against me. I’ve been imagining you and me together from the moment you opened the door and let me in.”
“You have?”
He shifted their positions until she was sitting on his lap. “Yes, and I’ve also wanted to do this.” Very slowly, he lowered his head until his lips brushed her forehead in a brief kiss. “And this.” He nibbled on her ear. “And this.” He nuzzled her neck, sucking lightly on the exposed skin as she titled her head back.
“Yes, I’ve wanted this, too.”
The admission threw him for a minute. “You do?”
In answer, she kissed him full on the lips. It was a tender kiss, one of exploration, but he felt it clear to his toes and all points in between. He couldn’t help but deepen the kiss. This woman was HOT.

I hope you’ve enjoyed this little teaser.

Cover Reveal for my 2014 Christmas Story!!!

Published October 19, 2014 by Lorraine Nelson - Author

I love Christmas! Do you? The purity of a fresh fall of snow, twinkling lights everywhere, home-baked goodies, families coming together, and peace and goodwill everywhere.

It gives me a good feeling when I write about people finding each other during the holidays. Their coming together seems so much sweeter. This year I have a special treat in store for you. It’s a bit steamier than my usual stories, but hey, what else is there to do when the power goes out and a fire is burning in the fireplace?

So, without further ado, here is this year’s cover. What do you think?

Her Christmas Wishes 2

Erica London needs some time alone to figure out if she should continue with the in vitro treatments. They haven’t worked so far. She really wants to have a baby and an heir to the ranch…to know he or she was on the way before Christmas. Of course, wishing for a man to love her and produce said baby would be wonderful, but that’s not about to happen. She rides over to the London Lodge, situated on the back-end of the London Ranch, to clean and close it down for the winter. A freak blizzard has her snowed in, but she doesn’t mind in the least. She has food, shelter, and wood fires to keep her warm. Besides, she enjoys not having the phone ringing or wranglers stopping in to chat.

Spencer Rafferty is on his way to his brother’s wedding when he takes a wrong turn and ends up on a side road. His car hits a nasty drift and barrels into the ditch. With no signal on his cell phone, he looks around and all he sees is white. He smells wood smoke but can’t determine where it’s coming from. Then, in a moment of clarity when the wind dies down, he sees the smoke and walks down the road toward it.

Erica opens the door with gun in hand, unsure whether or not to allow the stranger in. But the storm is a raging blizzard and she takes pity on him. When not covered in snow, she sees just how handsome the man is…and he’s not wearing a ring. When the power goes out, things heat up. Could this man be the one to make her wishes come true? Did she have it in her to embark on a weekend affair? And could she survive his leaving when the storm was over?

With a little luck and participation from Amazon, Her Christmas Wishes will release tomorrow at 99 cents in ebook form. I hope to have it available in print by November 1st.

Until next time, Happy Reading!

Review of Darke Heat by Nese Ellyson!!!

Published October 18, 2014 by Lorraine Nelson - Author

Nese Ellyson is a friend and critique partner. Her debut novel with MasterKoda Select Publishing, Darke Heat, is set to release on November 23rd. It’s one you won’t want to miss.

I’ve had the pleasure of watching this book grow from a tiny idea into a full novel and loved it all the way. Here’s my review:WWL

Paige Connor is a highly respected trainer of drug and bomb sniffing dogs. Her dysfunctional upbringing has her wanting to create a home, a sanctuary, for herself and her twin brothers.

Bryce Prescott is a DEA Agent and has managed to get on Paige’s list of people to avoid. After spending one fateful night together, he returns to work and takes one of her dogs with him. The dog gets pregnant and there’s hell to pay.

Paige becomes the target of some nasty people when she buys a farm in Darke County and disrupts their illegal business dealings. And who else but Bryce arrives to protect her…the man who used her to get one of her dogs.

Her anger with him is hot but the passion between them flares hotter as they work together to solve the crimes happening in their county.

An excellent read. I give it 5 stars.

You’ll definitely want to add this one to your TBR pile.
