30 days of Kindle Scout…Day 21

Daydreams and Night Scenes cover_TAKE 4

I absolutely love this cover! The models suit this story so well. So confident and sexy. 🙂

A night of love. Fantasy or Fateful Alliance?

Miranda Stuart is lushly built, hauntingly beautiful, career-oriented, and extremely intelligent, but thanks to a teenage crush on Alex Denning, a man who was way out of her league, she acts out of character when they meet up years later at a posh resort. She determines to have her fantasy night in his arms. When the night’s magic should have begun (unbeknownst to him) our dashing, billionaire playboy enters the scene with bright lights blaring and another woman in tow. Had she just left herself open to blackmail?

Sound good?

This is the book that is up for nominations at Kindle Scout. I’m trying to win a publishing contract there. In case you didn’t know, Kindle Scout is reader-powered publishing. The more nominations I get, the better my chances of winning a contract. Not only do I want to tap into their marketing, I like the idea of a $1500 advance. Just imagine how many books I could buy with that! LOL

The first five days my novel was listed as Hot and Trending and although I’ve had plenty of page views, it hasn’t hit that since. With only 9 days left of my campaign for Daydreams and Night Scenes, I need your help. I’d really appreciate it if you could take a few minutes to pop over there and read my chapter. If you like what you read, then please nominate my book. You may need to open an Amazon account, but that’s easy enough and no purchase necessary. If Daydreams and Night Scenes is selected for publication, you win a free copy direct from Amazon. How’s that for incentive? 🙂 Just click on the cover pic and you’re there.

In other news, I’m working on the next installment of the Thunder Creek Ranch series with Evernight Publishing. This one is about Jack Grayson, Winnie’s youngest son, and Allison Wakefield, the new vet in town. Fresh out of university, Jack’s all set to return to the Grayson spread and implement his studies and ideas in bringing the family’s ranch into the current generation. He’s sidetracked when he meets Allison and finds himself wanting to spend time with her. Meanwhile, someone has targeted him via his truck and vandalism to the point of attempted murder.

The working title is A Cowboy’s Drive, but I’m beginning to think it’s not catchy enough. Can you throw me a few ideas? Please?

Thank you and please, don’t forget to nominate Daydreams and Night Scenes. 🙂

#FREE!!! Her Christmas Wishes on Amazon

Published December 2, 2015 by Lorraine Nelson - Author

What are you wishing for this Christmas?

Her Christmas Wishes 2

Erica London needs some time alone to figure out if she should continue with the in vitro treatments. They haven’t worked so far. She really wants to have a baby and an heir to the ranch…to know he or she was on the way before Christmas. Of course, wishing for a man to love her and produce said baby would be wonderful, but that’s not about to happen. She rides over to the London Lodge, situated on the back end of the London Ranch, to clean and close it down for the winter. A freak blizzard has her snowed in, but she doesn’t mind in the least. She has food, shelter, and wood fires to keep her warm. Besides, she enjoys not having the phone ringing or wranglers stopping in to chat.

Spencer Rafferty is on his way to his brother’s wedding when he takes a wrong turn and ends up on a side road. His car hits a nasty drift and barrels into the ditch. With no signal on his cell phone, he looks around and all he sees is white. He smells wood smoke but can’t determine where it’s coming from. Then, in a moment of clarity when the wind dies down, he sees the smoke and walks down the road toward it.

Erica opens the door with gun in hand, unsure whether or not to allow the stranger in. But the storm is a raging blizzard and she takes pity on him. When not covered in snow, she sees just how handsome the man is…and he’s not wearing a ring. When the power goes out, things heat up. Could this man be the one to make her wishes come true? Did she have it in her to embark on a weekend affair? And could she survive his leaving when the storm was over?

Her Christmas Wishes is Free until December 5th. Just click on the link, download, and enjoy.

Black Friday Weekend Super Sale!!!

2014 msg

Yes, it’s that time of year again. Christmas is coming. Will you be ready?

It really doesn’t matter. It’ll come anyway. 🙂 I love Christmas, especially the spirit of giving to those you love. Whether it be emotional, spiritual, or something physical you buy or make yourself, it’s all done with the best of intentions. Sometimes the best thing you can do for others is give your time. Let your friends and family know you love them and are there for them, no matter what.

My mom and I used to get together and do our baking every year just to give most of it away. LOL. Unfortunately, that won’t happen this year as she is terminally ill and, for the most part, bedridden. My one wish is that she lasts out the year without any pain. So far so good. She says she feels fine and always has a smile for us. I love her so much. She is so proud of me for following my dream of being a writer…a published author, and of my sister, Sharon Wilson-Dupuis, for drawing these beautiful covers.

If you’re buying your loved one an electronic device, Kindle or whatnot, my Hudson Ranch series with its beautifully illustrated covers is sure to please. They are available online and book 1, The Inheritance is free today until Monday. The other 3 books in this series are only 99 cents each for the same 4 days. Download a copy with my heartfelt blessings for the very Merriest of Christmases. Just click on the book cover and you’re there, no matter where you live. 🙂

This short story is an introduction to the series.

Time is running out for Zackary Hudson. He has a fierce desire to reunite with his estranged sons, but they’re proving difficult to find. He hires a private investigator and the search begins in earnest. But will he find them in time?

 Only 99 cents!!!

Rodeo cowboy Benjamin Hudson is one of four brothers set to inherit their father’s ranch in northern Alberta. The only problem is, the three oldest have been estranged from Zackary Hudson for years. Their father’s will states they have to live on the ranch for one year, show a profit, and care for their baby brother. The main problems…none of them know anything about running a working ranch or caring for an infant. They decide to hire domestic help for the primary care of Jeremiah.

Halifax native, Danielle Madison, wants to escape the pain of an abusive marriage and the resultant stillborn child. She sees the ad for a nanny on a ranch in Alberta, applies, and flies west without a second thought. For Dani it’s work only, with no intention of becoming involved until she meets Benjamin, the tough-as-nails ex rodeo rider, who handles his baby brother with great gentleness and compassion. Little Jeremiah pulls at her heartstrings, and she’s drawn to him, despite her resolve to remain aloof.

Love is not in Ben’s vocabulary, except as it applies to his lost siblings. When things start disappearing and going wrong, Dani is Ben’s initial suspect. He’s attracted to her, despite her withdrawn persona, and tries to believe in her innocence as they work together to solve the mysterious happenings. Will love win out, or will the fear of commitment drive a permanent wedge between them?

He’d been duped!

Busy attending the victims of a fire on the Hudson Ranch and cleaning up after his veterinary clinic is vandalized, Gabe Hudson hires an assistant through email, based on qualifications. When Kristin appears, ready to work, he discovers he’s been duped. Thinking he’d hired a male practitioner who could help with their huge patients, he is totally baffled at her willingness to take on such a task.

Angry at first, he soon discovers how capable she is, seeming to have an affinity with the animals they tended. It didn’t hurt that her voice was soft and sexy and she was easy on the eyes to boot, but her entire demeanor was of a ‘hands off’ attitude. His growing affection and attraction to the woman were making his days harried and his nights a living hell. Combine that with trying to keep her safe as a psycho targets the clinic, and he’s afraid to let her out of his sight.

Nate’s job as an accountant is to get the Ranch’s accounts in order and bring in new business, so he hires his neighbor, Cyndi Dillon, as his assistant. She’s efficient and capable and oh so desirable, but Nate doesn’t believe in mixing business with pleasure.

Her job is everything she’d dreamed of and more, but she’s harboring a secret that could jeopardize their working relationship. The one thing Cyndi hadn’t counted on was falling for the shy accountant. He’s drop-dead gorgeous and looks great in Levis, but wasn’t it just her luck to fall for a pretend cowboy when she’d grown up around the real thing?

Someone doesn’t want the boys to inherit their father’s ranch and will do anything to get what they want. When problems on the spread escalate, will personal safety get in the way of their future or does love really conquer all?

I’ve often said that I wouldn’t offer up a novel as being completely free, but here I am doing exactly that. Why? Because a friend (who will remain nameless) paid for the promotion through a site she found that worked for her. She now has had more sales in one month than she’s had since her debut novel released 2 years ago. How could I refuse? 🙂

LN_finding baby J_200x300Finding Baby J is a steal at $3.49 and yet, for today only, September 18th, it’s absolutely FREE. I’ve received great reviews on this novel of love and courage. Read them here.

One lonely woman, a doctor afraid of commitment… Will finding Baby J help them find each other?

Shana Davis knows what it’s like to be unloved and unwanted. Her childhood involved being shuffled from one foster home to the next. One night, as her shift at Mercy hospital comes to an end, she hears a forlorn, mewling sound and finds a newborn baby boy left in a dumpster. The abandoned baby appeals to her soft heart and her immediate attachment to the child—dubbed Baby J—leads to her spending a lot of time in the Maternity Ward in the company of the handsome Dr. Daniels.

Dr. Kagan Daniels is heart-sore and commitment-shy due to his failed marriage and past experiences with selfish, cold-hearted women. But he sees a gentle, caring soul in Shana and is drawn to her. Despite his reservations, he realizes he wants to get to know her better and finds excuses to spend time in her company.
Having always wanted to be a daddy, Kagan adopts Baby J. As he and Shana grow closer, Shana feels she’s found her own private heaven. She has Baby J and the man of her dreams. What more could a woman want?
But a conniving woman, a manipulative mother, and a man from Shana’s past threaten to come between them. Will the lies spewed by others separate them forever? Or can their love win out over all?

Kagan held her hand as he guided her into the house. They walked through to the foyer to ascend the magnificent staircase leading to the second story. Once there, he preceded her into his personal suite of rooms. The main area had a bay of windows opening out unto a balcony. The view overlooked the back lawn and gardens then meandered down to the river where a boathouse and dock were just visible in the moonlight.
“Your home has such beautiful views.”
“Nothing compares to the beauty of you. I especially like looking at you as I undress you, exposing that gorgeous body, one piece of clothing at a time.”
He matched his words with action, starting with her sweater, looped casually around her shoulders. Then turned her into his arms for a deep, passion-filled kiss. She felt that melting sensation that happened every time he kissed her. Her insides fluttered and took wing then settled into a delicious knot of anticipation. She stroked her hands down his chest and felt the ripple of firm muscle, enjoying the opportunity to explore his body more fully. Her inhibitions completely deserted her. Though he hadn’t said the words, she felt he was making a commitment to them and not just playing the field.
He led her to the bed where he continued to strip her bare. Night had fully descended, moonlight reflecting off the water, illuminating the room enough so they could see each other.
Her hands were busy with the buttons on his shirt, shaking so much from anticipation they refused to work properly. In her haste, she ripped the remaining ones free and delighted in running her fingers through the coarse chest hair; the texture so different that when she rubbed her breasts against him, the tingles went straight to her groin. Heavenly days! The sensations this man evoked in her were rocking her world.
Naked at last, they fell to the bed in a jumble of arms and legs, laughing, kissing, and caressing each other. She’d never thought of sex as fun, only as a necessity to consummate a relationship, but this sense of sharing and bonding between them filled her with a glorious awakening of her power as a woman. She delighted in arousing him, of being able to turn him on with the merest look or touch, as he did her.
Soon, all playfulness disappeared in the passion of the moment as their bodies joined together, working toward a common goal, that of pleasuring each other to fulfillment.

New Release By Denise Ellyson!!!

Published November 27, 2014 by Lorraine Nelson - Author

It’s my pleasure to announce the release of Darke Heat by my good friend and critique partner, Denise Ellyson. This post is about Patches, one of the dogs in her book.

patchesPatches is a purebred German Shepherd, named because of the identifying patch of dark fur on his forehead. Patches loves ice cream, but he is lactose intolerant, as Bryce Prescott, our hero, learns the hard way.

Here’s an excerpt:

“Oh, you know where the goodies are kept,” Bryce said to the dog. “I don’t know if Paige feeds you stuff from the fridge, but not in my house. Here you will eat dog food.”
He opened the pantry and there was the hundred-pound bag of dog food. He looked over at the dog standing in front of the fridge and wondered how long the bag would last. Maybe one meal with these guys, he mused. He dragged it out to the counter and found plastic bowls. He filled a big pot with water, and then his plastic bowls with food. The dogs all came at the sound of the bowls being filled. They lined up with perfect manners waiting for him to let them know it was okay to proceed.

Patches was looking at the bowls but kept his stance at the fridge. As soon as Bryce stepped away from the bowls, Deeogee came forward to choose his bowl and the rest followed suit. Patches finally left his spot at the fridge and took the last bowl, but kept watch on the fridge.

Bryce wondered what about the fridge held the dog’s attention. Curious, he opened the door to the fridge, but the dog just stood there. Curiosity peaking, he opened the freezer drawer and the dog bounded over, reached in, grabbed the ice-cream container, and ran from the kitchen before Bryce could stop him.
“Hey, that’s my ice cream! You can’t eat that. It’ll make you sick!” He ran into the living room where he found Patches, the carton between his front paws, tearing the lid off with his teeth. As Bryce approached, the dog growled at him.
“Okay, mister, it’s your ice-cream. But don’t say I didn’t warn you when you have an upset stomach tomorrow.”

He finished getting ready for bed, and shooed the dogs out of his room. He found two of the dogs in the bathroom who were drinking from the toilet. He felt like he was back in college with a bunch of frat boys. He shut his bedroom door and lay down to get some sleep.

Bryce woke in the night to the sound of a dog whimpering. He raised himself on one elbow and glanced down at the end of his bed. He couldn’t discern what dog it was, but one of them had its face on his bed and there was a foul odor in the room. Apparently, the door latch hadn’t clicked into place. Bryce switched on the lamp on his bedside table and sat up in the bed to see over the side. Patches had had an accident…correction, make that lots of accidents.

“So you’re lactose intolerant. Great, just great!” Bryce threw back the covers and got out of bed, taking care to sidestep the globby messes as he made his way to the bathroom. He glanced back to see that Patches hadn’t moved, except to lie down on the floor beside the bed. Poor dog. He must be in agony, Bryce empathized.

“Well, come on. We have to get you cleaned up. Jump into the tub, and I’ll run some water.”

The dog moved to obey, but as soon as he rose to his feet, a rip-roaring fart rent the air.

“Geesh, Patches! No more ice cream for you. I’ll never be able to sleep in here tonight,” Bryce said, as he went to open the window.

I love that scene! And now, here’s the recipe for Patch’s favorite ice cream.

½cup sugar
2 cups milk, scalded
another ½ cup sugar
2 beaten egg yolks
¼ teaspoon of salt
1 teaspoon vanilla
2 stiff-beaten egg whites
1 cup heavy cream, whipped
½ cup chopped black walnuts

Caramelize ½ cup sugar; add milk slowly and stir until sugar dissolves.
Add remaining ½ cup of sugar and egg yolks;cook in double boiler until thick.

Remove from heat; add salt, vanilla.
Freeze in refrigerator tray until firm.
Break in chucks; turn into chilled bowl;
beat with electric mixer.
Fold in egg whites, cream, and nuts.
Return quickly to cold tray.
Freeze until firm.
Makes 6 servings

Sounds delicious! Don’t forget to pick up your copy of Darke Heat published by MasterKoda Select Publishing. Available at Amazon.

Free Today!!! Ride for Rights by Tara Chevrestt

Published August 9, 2012 by Lorraine Nelson - Author

A terrific read! Don’t miss out!

In the summer of 1916 women do not have the right to vote, let alone be motorcycle dispatch riders. Two sisters, Angeline and Adelaide Hanson are determined to prove to the world that not only are women capable of riding motorbikes, but they can ride motorbikes across the United States. Alone.

From a dance hall in Chicago to a jail cell in Dodge City, love and trouble both follow Angeline and Adelaide on the dirt roads across the United States. The sisters shout their triumph from Pike’s Peak only to end up lost in the Salt Lake desert.

Will they make it to their goal of Los Angeles or will too many mishaps prevent them from reaching their destination and thus, hinder their desire to prove that women can do it?

There was a twinkle in Francisco’s eyes as he looked the women up and down, taking in their dirty riding attire and the motorbikes behind them.

“We are just moving some of our caballos and mules to a more desirable location,” he said smoothly. “You must be the famous sisters riding to Los Angeles and getting into muchas problemas!” He laughed boisterously and, turning to the conversing men waiting on their horses and mules behind him, said something in Spanish to them all. The men began laughing and slapping their thighs with their large hats.

Angeline didn’t like this and stepped forward. “What are you saying?” she demanded.

Francisco gestured for his men to be quiet. “I read your American papers. You are quite famous. You brought trouble upon a man with many wives.” He shook his head and raised his hands in the air as though in supplication. “More than one espousa. Por que?  Hombre loco!”

The men behind him roared their approval once again. Finished with his antics, Francisco turned a serious face to the women in front of him. “Crazy man, I say. One woman is enough.” He held up a single digit. “Any more woman than that, and I would be drowning in my José Cuervo!”

The men behind him began yelling amongst themselves, and Angeline had no idea what they were saying but decided it sounded rather bawdy and thus related to women and a man named José, and it seemed harmless enough. The men looked dirty and disheveled, and she noted they carried weapons, but the man called Francisco was smiling and did not seem to intend them harm, so she permitted herself to relax.

Adelaide was quite charmed by this foreign man in front of her. She liked his smooth movements and the way he spoke with a twinkle in his eye. She also liked the idea of being famous. She asked the man to tell her more about what he had heard.

“You are representing women, yes?” Francisco asked them. “You aretropas and rebels!”

“Well, I don’t know what a tropa is, but I suppose you could say that.” Adelaide blushed again. Angeline was watching from the corner of her eye.

“Tell me more.” Francisco placed her hand in the crook of his arm. “Maybe we can help you.” He gestured to his men to dismount, and they all rushed to obey, pulling saddlebags off their horses or mules. “We have food and water and José Cuervo.”

Angeline was looking around for this mysterious José they all seemed to worship so, but no man in particular seemed to respond. She shrugged and reluctantly followed Francisco and her sister as they walked. The men obviously under Francisco’s command were all resting on their colorful bedrolls and chatting, occasionally looking in their direction in curiosity.

She caught up to her sister and new companion and grabbed her sister’s free arm, forcing her to stop her chattering and turn around. “We really should be going. We must reach the next town before dark,” she said in a warning tone.

Adelaide’s eyes were bright with excitement, and her cheeks were flushed. “Francisco says we will not make the next town before dark. He says we may join him and his men when they set up camp.”

“Absolutely not!” Angeline hissed, glancing discreetly at Francisco who was now directing orders at his men. “What has gotten into you?  We are two women alone surrounded by strange, foreign men! Do you have any idea what could happen?”

Mujures, I assure you no harm shall come to you. Here…” Francisco came up to them and pressed a Colt dragoon into Angeline’s hands, “for your safety.”

The dragoon was heavy, and she struggled not to show surprise or dismay. She had never shot a weapon. She attempted to exhibit a confidence she did not feel as she looked Francisco in the eye. “Why?” she asked defiantly. “Why do you want us to stay with your camp?”

“My men and I would love the company. We have been traveling for days with nothing but ourselves, our horses, our smelly mules, and José for company. We will not harm you, but I will not stop you from leaving if wish you wish to do so.”  He gallantly bowed once again.

A camp was being set up near a formation of rocks, and the men were unpacking cooking utensils as Angeline looked at the setting sun. She sighed. They had wasted too much time. She did not want to get lost again.

She looked at the dragoon in her hand, and its weight reassured her. She looked at a hopeful Adelaide and nodded her consent at Francisco. They would camp one night, but if any of the men bothered her or her sister, she was putting this dragoon to use even if it meant shooting her own arm off.

Today I finished editing and setting up Mistletoe & Mr. Hoe, a full-length Christmas novel at 58,000 words. I did up my own cover for it (simple but effective), uploaded the file to Amazon and, glory of glories, already have my page. 🙂 Please be warned, sexual content.

Official Blurb:

‘Master Baker and Owner of Toy Shop work together to create a little Christmas cheer for the town’s orphans.’

Simon Hoe left his wealthy upbringing behind to put some real distance between himself and childhood tragedy, never letting his emotions past the wall he’s formed around his heart. A master baker, he owns and operates ‘Simple Simon’s Pie Shop.’

Noelle Parsons survived her lonely foster care childhood only to have her one attempt at happily ever after end in disaster when she discovered her fiancé and best friend making plans to elope.  She moves to Parson City, where she opens ‘Winter Wonderland Toys & Crafts’.  Noelle enjoys everything Christmas, sees another lost soul in Simon, and tries to convince him he has every right to believe and to enjoy life, holidays and all. She despairs of ever breaking through the barriers he’s erected. Will their attraction to each other fizzle and die? Or can they work through their hurts and differences to find happiness?

I love writing and getting books out there to entertain my readers. Christmas is such a special season filled with love and joy. This is my way of bringing a little of it into your lives. I hope you enjoy!
