New Release! Wyoming Secrets #2

Published September 16, 2016 by Lorraine Nelson - Author

Good morning (or evening, depending on where you are in this world). Just a quick note to let you know that Guarding Alesha is now available on Amazon. This is Fred Bursey’s story. If you’ve read it, you’ll recognize him from book 1, Guarding Flint.

Blurb:guarding-alesha

Alesha Jennings would do anything to protect her son from his ex-cop, drug-running father…even kill if she had to. A leak in the Witness Protection Program had her on the run. Brent Malcolm had served his time. Now he was out and revenge would be at the top of his agenda. She’d prepared for this day, but hadn’t counted on her next-door neighbor becoming involved in her troubles.

Fred Bursey is undercover posing as the local handyman and he’s determined not to let Alesha out of his sight. He’s vowed to keep Alesha and her son safe, but a leak in the WPP is proving hard to find. Would the raven-haired temptress ever trust him? Especially once she learns he’s a cop?

Excerpt:

Prologue

Juan DeCarlo would not live to see tomorrow.

Plans were already in place for his cellmate of the past two months to have a deadly accident—shortly after Brent’s release. He’d suspected from day one that Juan was working undercover to gain information. Last night he’d been informed that Juan was a Deputy Sheriff, and as Brent often talked in his sleep, he didn’t want his plans thwarted at this point.

Damn! He wished he could break that habit…the one thing he had no control over had led to his arrest. His wife, the traitorous bitch, had heard him making plans, going over shipments and such, while he was asleep. She’d even had the nerve to follow him and gain more information before going to his boss with her knowledge. A hush-hush sting operation had taken care of the rest and he’d ended up serving time. She’d ruined his reputation and that of six friends who’d been with him.

Alesha Jennings…had a nice ring to it. She thought her and the brat were safe within the boundaries of the Witness Protection Program. He smiled as he anticipated the fear on her face when he showed up to confront her.

He uncurled his fists, relying on the calm he’d perfected during the past ten years. Patience, Malcolm. You’ve waited ten years. You can wait a little longer.

In a few minutes, he’d walk out of prison a free man…a model citizen…a man who had learned his lesson. He’d served his time and played his part. He’d keep a low profile, report to his parole officer and, when the time was right, he’d make his move.

I’m coming for you, Babe. I’ll be seeing you real soon.

His guards arrived and led him from the holding cell where he’d waited for his release. They walked him straight to the gate where his brother, Warren, waited. As they pulled away, Brent Malcolm settled in his seat and never once looked back.

Chapter One

The early morning phone call jolted Alesha Jennings from a sound sleep. This couldn’t be good. Dread caused her hand to shake as she lifted the receiver. “Hello.”

“Hello, Alesha. This is Marshall Keton. Brent’s being released today.”

She jerked upright, threw back the covers, and touched her bare feet to the cold floor. This had to be a dream…a very bad one of nightmare proportions. “Today?” She raised her free hand to cover her rapidly beating heart.

“They say he’s been a model prisoner. The parole board felt he’d learned his lesson.”

“And the others?”

“Also released. As long as you stay in the Witness Protection program, you and your son will remain safe.”

“Yes, I understand.” But she didn’t—not really. “Thanks for calling.”

She weighed her options as she replaced the receiver on its base, effectively putting an end to her conversation with Marshall Keton, her liaison with the Witness Protection Program. A swift glance at the clock had her on her feet and crossing the hall. She knocked on her son’s bedroom door. “Colby, time to get up.”

Alesha continued down the hall and into the bathroom. Once finished with her morning ablutions, she opened the door to find Colby leaning against the opposite wall, patiently waiting his turn. “Good morning, sweetie,” she said as she ruffled his already tousled hair. “Grab your shower. I’ll be in the kitchen.”

“Okay, Mom.”

He snagged a towel out of the linen closet and disappeared behind the bathroom door. Colby had his father’s chestnut curls, but that’s where any resemblance ended. His eyes were a shade darker blue than hers were and his slight build, long and lean for an almost ten-year-old, made him a favorite on his school’s sports teams. He was a natural athlete and she was proud of his accomplishments.

She entered the kitchen and put some eggs on to boil, started a pot of coffee for herself, and set the table. When she heard the bathroom door open, she put bread in the toaster, poured Colby a glass of orange juice, and set everything on the table as he appeared, fully dressed and shiny clean, to take a seat at the table.

She’d built a good life for them here in Thayne, Wyoming, but had never once stopped looking over her shoulder. Her testimony had been instrumental in busting a drug ring in Chicago. A drug ring headed by her, now ex, cop husband and a band of his cronies. All seven were convicted and had served ten years. Now they were out.

Marshall Keton assured her she wasn’t in any danger, but she knew different. Those men still had connections in law enforcement. If she stayed with the program, Brent would find her. The question uppermost in her mind—the one that had her worried for their safety—being when?

“Mom, can I have more juice?”

“May I, and yes, I’ll get it for you.” She grabbed the pitcher of juice from the fridge and refilled his glass, then filled her coffee mug and took a sip of the hot brew as she joined him for breakfast.

“We’ve got tests this morning, but we get to watch a movie this afternoon,” Colby said.

“Oh, which one?”

“I don’t know. Teach said it was a surprise.” He smiled and downed the rest of his juice. “I need to leave early. Some of the guys asked me to play baseball with them before school.”

“Will the teachers be there this early?” Alesha asked, concerned.

He nodded his head. “Miss Bryant said she’d open up the ball locker for us.”

“Well, I guess it’s all right then.”

“Great! I’m outta here.” He grabbed his lunch box and stuffed it in his book bag, then headed for the front of the house. She followed him onto the deck where he gave her a quick hug, then raced down the stairs, hopped on his bicycle, and was out of sight in no time.

He was growing up much too fast. It seemed like only yesterday she’d been changing his diapers and cuddling him close. Now he was up and going without her. But that would have to change. With Brent out of jail, she’d be keeping a closer eye on her son…a much closer eye.

Alesha went back inside, poured a fresh cup of coffee and stood looking out the window, thinking and seeing nothing, as she sipped the hot brew. She’d had ten years to prepare for this day. Everything was in place, ready to move at a moment’s notice. She only had to grab Colby, drive to the next town, ditch her car, and pick up the Jeep she’d purchased last month under an alias. Her prized photos were already in the Jeep, not one of which had identifiable landscape markers. Witness Protection had taught her well.

Yet she hesitated. What would it hurt to allow Colby to finish out the last two weeks of school with his friends? Alesha chewed her lower lip in concentration as she worriedly paced from room to room.

If Brent had already found out where they were living, he could hop a plane and be there in a matter of hours. Would he dare come straight here? Surely, he knew he would be watched, at least until the Sheriff’s office was satisfied that he wasn’t in contact with his former affiliates in crime.

Yes, she and Colby would be safe enough here for the time being, although she’d start driving him back and forth to school. She’d also have to pay the Principal a visit, tell her their story, and inform her that Colby’s father was free…just in case.

She picked up the phone and dialed the school’s number.

* * *

Fred Bursey studied the bungalow next door. He saw Alesha through the kitchen window with the help of high-powered binoculars. He’d been trying to get close to her for months now, but she always fobbed him off. Her aversion to cops was legendary, but as far as she knew, he was the local handyman. What could she possibly have against him?

Or was it men in general? He’d studied her file in detail before accepting this assignment and, after what she’d been through, he really couldn’t blame her for being wary.

Alesha was friendly enough, as long as their conversations remained impersonal, but her clear, sapphire gaze always seemed to bore right through him, suspicion evident in their depths. He’d enjoyed the time spent with her and her son, often joining them in a game of soccer, or playing basketball with Colby in front of her garage. The kid had the makings of a star athlete and he had his mother to thank for it.

They were always together, except when Colby was in school. Fred looked at her now and almost drooled. He couldn’t help but wish he could inspire that kind of devotion to him, but she just didn’t appear interested.

Marshall Keton with the Witness Protection Program had approached his boss, Captain Shane Gillespie, and asked for help. He had discovered a leak in the program and rented this bungalow for Fred just after Christmas. He’d wanted someone close by who could provide immediate protection for Alesha and her son if needed. But Fred hadn’t counted on being attracted to the raven-haired beauty.

I hope you’ve enjoyed this teaser.

99 Cent Sale!

Published August 1, 2016 by Lorraine Nelson - Author

Today is a beautiful day here in New Brunswick and it’s a wonderful day for my readers.

Zakia and the Cowboy is on sale for 99 cents! This is the novel that launched my career and gave validity to my writing. It became a bestseller on Amazon, All Romance eBooks, and Bookstrand. It was a top pick at Night Owl Reviews and Book of the month in 2011 at the To Be Read Pile reviews. It also launched the Thunder Creek Ranch series with Evernight Publishing, which now totals 8 books with 2 more planned.

Next up is Abby’s Intent followed by A Thunder Creek Christmas, which will complete this series.

I have truly enjoyed writing these novels of romantic suspense. The town, the ranches, and the people will live in my heart and in my books forever. If you haven’t yet read Zakia and the Cowboy, I urge you to grab a copy while it’s on sale.

Now Available in Print!!!

Blurb:

With a stalker following her every move, Zakia has no choice but to flee the city. Her options limited, she runs to the only place she’s ever felt safe…the Thunder Creek Ranch and her ex-husband, Lucas.

Will he protect Zakia from the stalker? And if he does will either of them be able to ignore the feelings that have simmered for so long, ready to explode… before danger either draws them together or pulls them apart.

Excerpt:

“Sorry, Darlin’. Always a cowboy,” he apologized.

Luke sat on the edge of the bed and struggled to remove his cowboy boots, then disposed of pants, briefs and socks. When he looked up and saw the still smooth, silky skin of her upper torso and full breasts partially covered by her beautiful, long, blonde hair, he had to ask himself how he got to be so lucky. Déjà vu was very much in existence as he admired the woman standing before him. Zakia was still every bit the exquisite, sexy woman she’d been on their wedding night, only now she was trying hard not to giggle.

“What’s so funny,” he asked with a grin as he reached for her.

“Just a little touch of déjà vu going on.”

“I was thinking the same thing. You’re just as beautiful now as you were on our wedding night,” he stated as he pulled her back into his arms.

“Well, I was thinking it funny that you said those exact same words on our wedding night.”

“What words?” he asked, curious and trying to think.

“Sorry, Darlin’. Always a cowboy.”

“Ooohh, those words. It’s true. A cowboy doesn’t go too far without his boots.”

“Did you mean it, Luke?”

“Mean what?”

“That you still think I’m beautiful.”

“Do I need to install mirrors on every wall in the house?” he teased. “Yes, you are the most beautiful woman I’ve ever seen, and sexily built. Now, shut up and kiss me.”

“Oh, I so like a man who knows what he wants,” she cooed.

When she reached for him, pulling him down for a kiss filled with all the passion he remembered, his heart soared. Gone was the polite restraint they’d held to since her arrival. He kissed her back, longing for more, aching for the promise her lips delivered.

His hands moved to her breasts, rubbing and tweaking the nipples to turgid peaks, then massaging the silken softness until she moaned against his mouth in pleasure. Breaking the kiss, he took one rosy nipple into his mouth, sucking and nipping lightly before transferring his attention to the other one.

He worked his way down her body, one kiss at a time, having to keep a tight rein on his control as she breathed his name over and over again. Her body writhed beneath him as he reached her sopping pussy, her unique scent driving him wild as always. He parted her lips and kissed her, rubbing tiny circles on her clit with his thumb. His other hand reached beneath her to fondle her ass as he began sucking her, his tongue laving and prodding her wetness until he could take no more. Rising up, he coaxed her legs apart with his knees and positioned himself. As he looked into her desire-glazed eyes, he moved, pushing into her with one hard thrust.

Then he stilled. It had been as tight as their first time. “Did I hurt you?”

“Uh, uh.” She shook her head as her body began to move, encouraging him to pull out and push into her warmth again.

She grabbed his hips, pulling him closer, deeper, and they fell into a rhythm that told of their familiarity with each other. It was as if he’d gone back in time, back to the days of love and laughter, caring and sharing their lives, completing each other. He thrust in and out, faster, harder, seeking the rapture he’d only found with the woman lying beneath him.

Thought took a long, slow ride after that as they concentrated on catching up on years of lost loving, and he was pleased to note, she still had that deep, husky, pleading note in her voice when she screamed his name.

I do love my cowboys. LOL

New Release, Cover Reveal, & a giveaway!

Published July 15, 2016 by Lorraine Nelson - Author

Hello, my friends! I’m so excited! Today begins the blog tour for my new release and I get to announce a sale. Yes, you heard right. Cowboy Dreamin’ is the 8th installment in my Thunder Creek Ranch series and it’s available now. Also, Zakia and the Cowboy, book 1, is on sale this week for 99 cents.cowboydreami'.sm

Don’t you just love that cover? I know I do. 🙂 The Manning/Grayson clan is a family bonded together through love and hardship. I’ve enjoyed creating this series where the family protects its own. This is Jack Grayson’s story and I just know you’re going to love reading it as much as I enjoyed writing it.

Warning: Sexual Content

Here’s the blurb for Cowboy Dreamin’…

Jack Grayson finished university and he’s ready to go home and take over the family spread. Allison Wakefield is the new vet in town. When they first meet, sparks fly and tempers soar. But their love grows when Jack helps Allison through a vulnerable time in her life.

When they are both plagued with vandalism, it quickly accelerates to attempted murder. Somebody doesn’t want them together. Can they figure out who has it in for them before someone gets killed?

Intrigued? Ready for a teaser excerpt?

“You’re good at what you do, and you have a love for animals. With some, it’s the love of money that drives them, whether animal or people doctors.”

“That is so sad, but unfortunately true in some cases. All I’ve ever wanted to be is a veterinarian. I do love animals.”

“Then how come you don’t have a dog or cat of your own?” Jack asked.

“I never knew where I’d end up. Mama always said that to move with a cat is bad luck and, as for dogs, it wouldn’t be fair to have one and have to keep it caged all the time. I work long hours.”

“Yes, I know.”

The speaker came on, and a disembodied voice informed them that visiting hours were now over.

Allison gathered up her bag and leaned down to kiss Jack before leaving. “I’ll be back to see you tomorrow after the clinic closes, barring emergencies.”

“I’ll look forward to it, but call first in case they let me out of here.”

“Will do. Night, Jack.”

“Good-night, Allison. Thanks for dinner.”

She smiled, kissed him good-bye, and left. Although she’d much rather have stayed with Jack, his eyelids were drooping and she figured he’d had enough company for one day. Other than all the bandages he was plastered with, he seemed fine.

Allison nodded and smiled at the security guard standing outside of Jack’s room. He hadn’t been there when she arrived. Probably because Michael had been. “Keep him safe.”

He smiled back. “That’s why my boss, Michael Grayson, called me here. That family takes care of its own.”

“So I’ve heard.”

During the drive home, Allison couldn’t help but wonder who had it in for Jack. Although she hadn’t known him long, she knew he was a kind, caring man. She just couldn’t picture him with enemies—unless one of his classmates was overly jealous of him. Hadn’t Winnie mentioned that he’d been valedictorian? That took a lot of smarts, but didn’t usually make enemies.

He’d had a tire slashed, his truck scratched, and now this. It really was a good thing that he hadn’t headed toward town. All those sharp turns…

She shuddered just thinking about it.

Jack loved that truck. Someone was hitting hard, and it had to be personal. If they wanted him dead, he’d likely be dead by now. Was all this a warning of some kind? No, cutting a brake line was more than a warning. Someone definitely wanted Jack dead.

And now the blurb for Zakia and the Cowboy…

With a stalker following her every move, Zakia has no choice but to flee the city. Her options limited, she runs to the only place she’s ever felt safe…the Thunder Creek Ranch and her ex-husband, Lucas.

Will he protect Zakia from the stalker? And if he does will either of them be able to ignore the feelings that have simmered for so long, ready to explode… before danger either draws them together or pulls them apart.

Blurb:

The horse riding area with three horses on the background on a bright sunny day

Inheriting a ranch on the heels of her husband walking out has Melissa Dehavilland struggling to learn the ropes. James McGovern, raised in foster care, has saved all his life toward a dream…that of owning a ranch. Such diverse backgrounds don’t always converge in harmony, especially when their first meeting turned sour, but working together means saving her ranch and restoring his dream. Respect is hard-earned and trust non-existent as they fight their attraction to each other. Melissa’s ex shows up, wanting a cut and causing trouble. The difficulties bind them closer together as they strive to guarantee a future…together.

Ready for a teaser excerpt? Here goes…

Jimmy was pumped. Adrenaline poured through his veins as wild as the Mustangs while he’d chased after the horses. Now the rush had left, he was dog-tired and looking forward to sharing his news with his boss. But not smelling as he did coming off the range.

“Sherry, you are one beautiful horse. You knew what to do better than I did. Or was it that handsome stallion that had you moving so fast?” He frowned as he gave his horse a good rubdown, remembering the incident with Midnight Rain. How could he and Melissa get back to a normal working relationship? Would she even care about his success tonight? Animosity rent the air whenever they were near each other.

He’d bite the bullet and take the first step by sharing his news. After all, he hadn’t asked to bring Sherry with him and it had been rude to assume it would be all right.

After returning to his room, he headed straight for the shower. He’d clean up and change clothes before going to find Melissa. He and Tippy had corralled eighteen Mustangs tonight. He’d hoped for one or two, as on previous occasions, but they’d been lucky.

He showered in record time and went into the bedroom to find clean clothes, a towel wrapped around his waist. That’s when he noticed the lights on in Melissa’s room. She’d gone to bed. Maybe she just wasn’t interested.

Would she mind if I cross the courtyard and knock on her door? He stood close to the glass pane, trying to catch a glimpse of movement that would indicate she was still up. Nothing moved. The lights blinked off as he stood there, undecided. Well, that settles that. Letting the towel drop, he turned toward the bed. He’d tell her tomorrow, if she asked.

Exhausted beyond belief, he fell asleep almost instantly.

 * * * *

Oh, wow! Melissa felt like a voyeur. A wanton and extremely needy voyeur.

When he came out of the bathroom wearing only a towel, she should’ve turned away, but she couldn’t. Her feet seemed glued to the floor.

From the way he filled out his clothes, she’d known he had a great physique. What she hadn’t known, and couldn’t possibly guess, was how splendid a body he did have.

His broad shoulders tapered to a narrow waist, not a spare ounce of flesh on him to be seen. Perfect abs, muscled biceps, and those legs, long and lean. Her legs shook in reaction, threatening to give way. She was about to start drooling. Never had she seen such a perfect body.

Certainly not Marcus’s. She giggled, remembering his paunch. Too much wining and dining did that to a person. Served him right, the adulterous jerk.

She watched as Jimmy crossed his room, walking up close to the patio doors. Was he coming to see her? Dressed like that? Had she given him reason to think he could? Melissa’s insides tightened in response as she turned off the lamp. She almost parted the blinds and waved when he looked her way…until he dropped the towel.

She’d moved then, peeking through the blinds to try and determine if Jimmy was retiring for the night, or just winding down.

Her eyes threatened to pop out of her head and she knew her mouth was hanging open, but she couldn’t look away. She took one step backward, then another, never taking her eyes off his muscular physique. When he turned and headed for bed, she almost cried out for him, such was her need. Instead, she stood there and admired his fine tush until he covered it with the blankets and turned out the lamp.

“Good night, Jimmy,” she whispered into the darkness. “Sweet dreams.” She undressed and crawled in between the sheets, punched her pillow into submission and settled in to get some shut-eye. Sleep did come, eventually, and with it exquisite dreams of the man across the way.
