New Release: HerStory Anthology!!! and Giveaways!!!

Published March 8, 2013 by Lorraine Nelson - Author
Today I have the pleasure of announcing the release of HerStory anthology featuring historical fiction from 27 great authors…myself included. 🙂
In ancient times, women were regarded as sacred. They were thought to hold the mystical power of creation—responsible for the continuation of our species. With the rise of Science and Religion, these myths were dispelled and their plight began.
HerStory: Fiction Honoring Women’s History Month is a collection of Flash Fiction and Short Stories from today’s top authors featuring female characters that exemplify strong strength of mind, body, and character. Some of these tales are based on real people while others are purely fictional. However, all are standing up for themselves and what they believe in.
Grab yourself a glass of wine or favorite hot beverage and get comfortable as you read about the lives of women who will light the fire in your soul.

It’s finally here. HerStory. Available to the masses. And to honor release day, we’re having a party. Use the Rafflecopter below to enter to win some terrific prizes. *U.S. residents only*
Here’s what’s up for grabs.

First Grand Prize
First Grand Prize

Because they have the same agenda: empowering girls/women, Keira’s Kollection owner Mr. Wagstaff has graciously agreed to donate a Strong is Beautiful T-shirt. One very lucky woman is not only going to walk away with a paperback copy of HerStory and be empowered through words, but she will also be showing her empowerment right there on her shirt.

And that’s not all, the grand prize winner also gets a pair of earrings from Cathy from Etsy, who runs Yesware. The earrings sparkle one side and have a message on the other side: the greatest story never told.

Only, we’re telling it, the authors of HerStory. We are telling it.

Author Laura DeLuca has donated an incense diffuser to go along with some handmade soap from Greenchild Creations.

And we’re throwing an e-book into this mix. Why soap and diffusers? What does that have to do with women’s history?

In HerStory, Mathilda of Ringelheim runs a bath house. It seems appropriate to honor herstory this way.

AND as Mathilda seems to know, every woman needs soap and every woman needs time to relax. So one lucky winner will take a nice long shower with her fantastic handmade soap, set her diffuser on a table, and curl up with HerStory on her kindle. Who says you can’t be relaxed and empowered at the same time? (and smell good)

Another donation from Laura DeLuca: an ebook, a Japanese tea set, and an Oriental incense diffuser. How does this tie into HerStory?

In Please Stay, Asuka, a Japanese wife of the 1600s, is preparing the evening meal while awkwardly trying to discuss a matter–somewhat delicate–but of great importance with her husband.

As you get lost in your ebook, in Asuka’s story (penned by Becca Diane), you can pretend you are there. Perhaps you feel your husband’s penetrating stare. But you serve him his tea, straighten your spine, and say what needs to be said…then wait, breath held, for his reply, incense lightening the tension in the air…

One lucky winner will have a chance to make their voice heard on the radio…with a $25 Amazon gift card burning a hole in their pocket!

HerStory goes behind the scenes to locate the stories of women who lived, laughed, and touched the lives of generations…

Now, here is your chance to have your story told to the world….or your mother’s…it’s your chance to talk about the most inspiring woman or women in YOUR life. Shout it out! Tell listeners everywhere about this amazing person. Honor her!

This prize is being donated by Indie Reviews Behind the Scenes.

Four of these tins of mints are being donated by the Unemployed Philosophers Guild. That means four lucky winners are going to win a tin of mints to carry around in their pockets and every time they look at the tin, they’ll be empowered!

The tin is also the perfect size to serve as a pillbox once the mints are gone. This is something you can keep for a LONG time.

Author and editor Tara Chevrestt has a secret addiction and hobby. It makes her feel like an old lady, so she keeps it under wraps, but now the truth is out…

She likes to cross stitch!!!
And with the suffragette tales (Sister Suffragettes by Dahlia DeWinters and Chevrestt’s own From You No and Silent Suffragette) in the back of her mind, she found a pattern on Etsy by Patternbird and set to stitching.
Two lucky winners will walk away with these. They are 3.25″ by 6″ and have a hard backing so they may be placed on a wall.

PRIZE 7, ONE WINNER, FLAPPER-STYLE HATDonated from Rakestraw Book Design.

Toni Rakestraw, one of the HerStory contributors, is stitching this hat so one lucky reader can–in her mind–march in a suffragette parade as she reads HerStory. Or perhaps this is something Margaret Sanger would have worn as she leaves the workhouse in The Woman Rebel.

You’ve heard the term multi-published and many of HerStory’s authors can place that before their name, but how about multi-talented?

Author Morgan Summerfield can not only write as she shoes us in Adella, but she can paint too! She is kindly donating a painting 27″ wide by 11″ high, titled Morning Poppies. The frame is handmade with real wood and she stretches all her own canvases. It is hand-painted-by her!-in multi media.

And last, but certainly not least, we have a lovely Coco Chanel quote pendant donated by the lovely Jewelry Designs by Lula. One winner will win this delightful pendant that says  A girl should be two things: WHO and WHAT she wants.

We could not have said it better.

Enter for all prizes using the Rafflecopter form below. Giveaway is for three weeks. Winners will be notified via email and will have 48 hours to respond with their snail mail addresses. After 48 hours, new winners will be chosen.

Thank you and enjoy HerStory! Be empowered! Learn something. Believe in yourself and womankind. 🙂

Official Release! Cauldron of Tales!!!

Published October 1, 2012 by Lorraine Nelson - Author

Our Witchy Halloween Anthology, Cauldron of Tales releases today! Yay! Although the book has been out for a few days now, today marks the official release. Don’t you just love the cover! It was designed for us by Staci Perkins. Thank, Staci! You did an excellent job! 🙂

When some friends and I got together and decided to self-publish this antho, we were excited, to say the least. We have a selection of six witch stories penned by five authors, Sonia Hightower, Chacelyn Pierce, Angelina Rain, Nikki Prince, and myself. They range from sweet and humorous to downright spicy…something for everyone. 🙂

Now, you all know that I don’t write paranormal, but I wanted to take part, so this was quite a challenge for me. When an idea suddenly hit, I ran with it, and am I glad I did. Hexed or Vexed kept me laughing as I wrote, the words coming fast and furious. It’s my hope that you’ll enjoy reading these stories as much as we enjoyed writing them.

When five witches with wild imaginations get together,
the pot boils over with trouble, romance, and sensuality.
In The Devil’s Berries, readers are taken back to Renaissance England where Sabine, facing her last night alive, reveals how the witch really came to be associated with the broomstick. Will her nightly visitor bring her more trouble or will he give her peace?
Cindy can’t decide if she’s Hexed Or Vexed her longtime friend, Killen. All she knows is that one second he was her very manly friend, and the next, he’s a dog. Can her Witchy Group on Facebook help her fix the mess, or will she be burdened with a comical canine companion the rest of her days?
Willow Vance is a poor excuse for a witch, and by some stroke of luck, the six-year-old Past Potion she crafted worked. When the hexed warlock finds out about Willow’s curse, he will stop at nothing for her to lift the spell. Willow can run, but does she want to?
Alone for Halloween, Bryn is ready to take some frustrations out on her purple battery-operated toy, but she’s in for a surprise when the Toy Soldier becomes a flesh-and-blood man. Grateful to be free of his plastic curse, Byron will do anything for her…no matter how naughty.
A dance of seduction under The Light of the Moon turns into a night of passion, but will that be enough for Aponi to keep the man of her dreams enchanted? Or will the flame that was ignited die out just as quickly as it sparked?
Danica finds herself confused after a trip to the carnival with her best friend and coworker. She’s been attracted to Lisette for months, but are her feelings really being reciprocated, or was there A Sappho Spell cast in Madame Lilith’s tent?

We also have a Facebook Page dedicated to the antho. Please join us and keep up to date on prizes and giveaways:

It’s Release Day Again!

Published November 28, 2011 by Lorraine Nelson - Author

Wow! Just last month Evernight Publishing released my debut novel, Zakia and the Cowboy, and now here we are celebrating the release of its sequel, Covert Mission: Undercover Cop.

I am so thrilled to be working with such a talented, efficient team! Dana Horbach did the editing on this one and I do admit to loving the finished product. Well done, Dana! Cover art, supplied once again by the talented DaraEngland of LF Designs, is superb! I do appreciate her sharing those hunky cowboys with us. Thanks, Dara!

The Thunder Creek Ranch series is more exciting than I thought it would be when I first started writing it. To think it all started with one name, Zakia, and grew from there. Producing a series is much harder than writing a single title. The people, the timelines, location—everything has to agree in each book, especially where their stories intertwine and overlap. What color was his hair? Were her eyes blue or green? Darn it! What was the name of that judge? Cop? Neighbor? Horse? These things all need to be kept straight. It’s quite often the little things that can take a reader out of a story, and I’d hate for that to happen with one of my books.

As with Zakia, I loved writing Sam’s story. She’s such a feisty, independent character and full of sass. No, she’s not a redhead, but she does have the temperament, mostly earned from what she’s lived through up until now. To a large extent, circumstances, the good and the bad, make us who we are. We can sit back and let the bad things—hurt, pain, disappointment and disillusionment—rule our lives, or we can rise above all that, take control of our thoughts…our very lives, and strive to be the best we can be.

Blake is…well…Blake. He’s strong, handsome, caring, patient and protective. A cop and a delicious hunk of cowboy all wrapped into one gorgeous package. As an only child, he’s known his share of unconditional love, knows that he belongs wherever, whenever, but when he meets Sam, he senses something entirely different. It was a real toss-up as to who would win the ultimate battle between these two. Would it be Blake with his seemingly unending supply of patience, or Sam and her independent, stubborn nature? LOL Needless to say, I’m not telling. 🙂

Two cops have been murdered, two convicts escape. Samantha Muldoon and Blake Northrup pair up to protect their friends.

Will their attraction to each other hinder their effectiveness or distract them from their job? Can it grow into something lasting, or will previous hurt keep them apart?

For excerpt, check out my website, listed below.

I love hearing from my readers! It’s important to know what works and doesn’t work for you as I continue to craft stories of love and mystery.

Just a reminder…Covert Mission: Undercover Cop is 15% off for the first two weeks at Evernight.

New Release!

Published November 15, 2011 by Lorraine Nelson - Author

Today I finished editing and setting up Mistletoe & Mr. Hoe, a full-length Christmas novel at 58,000 words. I did up my own cover for it (simple but effective), uploaded the file to Amazon and, glory of glories, already have my page. 🙂 Please be warned, sexual content.

Official Blurb:

‘Master Baker and Owner of Toy Shop work together to create a little Christmas cheer for the town’s orphans.’

Simon Hoe left his wealthy upbringing behind to put some real distance between himself and childhood tragedy, never letting his emotions past the wall he’s formed around his heart. A master baker, he owns and operates ‘Simple Simon’s Pie Shop.’

Noelle Parsons survived her lonely foster care childhood only to have her one attempt at happily ever after end in disaster when she discovered her fiancé and best friend making plans to elope.  She moves to Parson City, where she opens ‘Winter Wonderland Toys & Crafts’.  Noelle enjoys everything Christmas, sees another lost soul in Simon, and tries to convince him he has every right to believe and to enjoy life, holidays and all. She despairs of ever breaking through the barriers he’s erected. Will their attraction to each other fizzle and die? Or can they work through their hurts and differences to find happiness?

I love writing and getting books out there to entertain my readers. Christmas is such a special season filled with love and joy. This is my way of bringing a little of it into your lives. I hope you enjoy!

Featured Title AND Bestseller!!!

Published October 9, 2011 by Lorraine Nelson - Author

Zakia and the Cowboy is a featured title and also made the Bestseller List at All Romance eBooks!

Wow! Thank you to all those who have purchased my novel to date. You’ve made all the waiting and agonizing worthwhile. 🙂

Writing is a hobby which I truly enjoy, especially now that I can share my stories with the world. Isn’t the Internet a wonderful thing? I’ve made friends from all over and, I suspect, now my readers/fans. I love you all!

I’m so thankful for the day I subbed to Evernight Publishing. They have a terrific staff and my editor, Emma Shortt, is awesome. And the cover art is to die for! Thank you Dara England of LF Designs. It’ll make a terrific poster for my home office, don’t you think? And thank you, Evernight, for taking a chance on this newbie. Words simply cannot express how thrilled I am to be one of your authors.

During the course of this past couple of years, I’ve spent a lot of time on Medical leave from my day job. I won’t bore you with the details of each ailment except to say that hand surgery is what motivated me to begin writing that novel of romance I’d always intended to try my hand at. (pun intended!)

I developed an infection in my thumb and by the time the doctors realized what it was, it had eaten away at the bone from the inside. Needless to say, they had to amputate so the infection didn’t spread. Everything I do involves the use of my hands, from typing to cooking, baking, gardening and even reading. It’s difficult to get used to holding a book open with half a thumb. Luckily, it was my left and I’m right-handed, but it still took some getting used to.

In trying to prepare for a return to work, I started typing. It helped to increase the flexibility in that hand and kept me from going stir crazy. At first, it was just online typing tests, but one day an idea began to take shape and I started writing. Seven weeks later I had finished Love on the Rocks, totally edited and polished to the best of my ability and began subbing to publishers. Boy, have I learned a lot since and have received many rejections for my efforts.

But I found that I really enjoyed writing – enjoyed the challenge of it, learning as I went. I’m still learning. Nobody’s perfect. I’ve since written seven other full-length novels and three novellas.

Zakia and the Cowboy is the first in my Thunder Creek series, with Books 2 and 3 in the works and ideas for 2 more. I enjoy crafting stories and it’s helps to keep my mind alive. There are so many ideas floating around in there that at least once I have them written down, they ease off and let me rest… sometimes. lol

My doctor has me off work indefinitely, but at least I have my writing to sustain me. Making money from it was never an impetus. Creating a believable story from nothing more than a vague idea – that’s what motivates me. The fact that people want to read my writing is a bonus, and one that I’m rather proud of. I love hearing from my readers and can be contacted by dropping a comment here or on my website. Tell me what you like or didn’t like about this book and I’ll enter all names in a draw for the sequel.

*** P.S. When that first royalty cheque arrives, I’m certain I’ll find something to spend it on. 🙂

New Release from Evernight Publishing!

Published October 5, 2011 by Lorraine Nelson - Author

Zakia and the Cowboy

on sale now!

Writing – my passion, my dream. I started writing adult fiction as a hobby almost three years ago while on medical leave for hand surgery. With the aim of gaining more flexibility in my fingers, I began typing. I just sat at the computer and started writing. J When I finished that first manuscript seven weeks later, I was thrilled! Then came the process of editing, tweaking, and polishing until I felt it was ready to send.

 Boy, was I wrong!!!

Needless to say, I’ve suffered through my share of rejections, but instead of giving up, they made me more determined to succeed. I’ve joined several writing groups and forums and have made many online friends, people who have been supportive and encouraging throughout this journey. By nature, writing is a lonely job, so it helps to have people with whom you can share with and do a little brainstorming. Except when the characters start talking to me. LOL That’s when I can immerse myself in the tale and write for hours on end, crafting their story their way.

With the help of a terrific editor at Wild Rose Press, I discovered where my writing lacked substance, studied those areas, kept writing, revising and submitting. I’ve entered contests and pitches, even won a couple, but publication still evaded me… until this past July when perseverance paid off.

It wasn’t a call that came, per se, but an email. Evernight Publishing wanted my book. So, by receiving an email notification I didn’t have to stutter excitedly through a phone call and embarrass myself, but without speaking directly to someone on the publishing end, it didn’t really feel real – until I opened another email that Sunday night and saw my cover. Squee! Fantastic!

I’d been waiting on the edits/revisions to come in and wasn’t expecting to see any cover art, especially at11:30 pm on a Sunday night. My surprise was immediate and vocal. My son came running, alarmed, but smiled when he saw the cover. Everything had happened so fast!

On July 17th I subbed my manuscript to Evernight, on the 18th I received the contract, signed and returned it on the 20th and on the 25th, received the covers. No matter how you look at it, this team is super efficient. Marketing and promotion commenced with the release of the covers and my first book, Zakia and the Cowboy, comes out today.

It’s been a pleasure to share my journey with you. I hope this serves as inspiration to other writers to just keep learning, writing, and submitting; and for my readers, provide a little “behind the scenes” info.

Post a comment or question for your chance to win a free download of Zakia and the Cowboy. Check my blog schedule in yesterday’s post to follow along and enter a few more times, increasing your chances of winning. I’m giving away one free download at every stop along the way. Winners will be announced the following day.

*Please Note: Evernight Publishing is experiencing temporary problems with their website, but Zakia and the Cowboy is available at Amazon.

Now, I’ll open this up and welcome questions…always hoping I have the answers. Lol Thanks for helping me celebrate this momentous day.

Now for the Excerpt:

(Warning!!! Sexually explicit!!! Adults Only!!!)

“Sorry, Darlin’. Always a cowboy,” he apologized.

He sat on the edge of the bed and struggled to remove his cowboy boots, then disposed of pants, briefs and socks. When he looked up and saw the still smooth, silky skin of her upper torso and full breasts partially covered by her beautiful, long, blonde hair, he had to ask himself how he got to be so lucky. Déjà vu was very much in existence as he admired the woman standing before him. Zakia was still every bit the exquisite, sexy woman she’d been on their wedding night, only now she was trying hard not to giggle.

“What’s so funny,” he asked with a grin as he reached for her.

“Just a little touch of déjà vu going on.”

“I was thinking the same thing. You’re just as beautiful now as you were on our wedding night,” he stated as he pulled her back into his arms.

“Well, I was thinking it funny that you said those exact same words on our wedding night.”

“What words?” he asked, curious and trying to think.

“Sorry, Darlin’. Always a cowboy.”

“Ooohh, those words. It’s true. A cowboy doesn’t go too far without his boots.”

“Did you mean it, Luke?”

“Mean what?”

“That you still think I’m beautiful.”

“Do I need to install mirrors on every wall in the house?” he teased. “Yes, you are the most beautiful woman I’ve ever seen, and sexily built. Now, shut up and kiss me.”

“Oh, I so like a man who knows what he wants,” she cooed.

When she reached for him, pulling him down for a kiss filled with all the passion he remembered, his heart soared. Gone was the polite restraint they’d held to since her arrival. He kissed her back, longing for more, aching for the promise her lips delivered.

His hands moved to her breasts, rubbing and tweaking the nipples to turgid peaks, then massaging the silken softness until she moaned against his mouth in pleasure. Breaking the kiss, he took one rosy nipple into his mouth, sucking and nipping lightly before transferring his attention to the other one.

He worked his way down her body, one kiss at a time, having to keep a tight rein on his control as she breathed his name over and over again. Her body writhed beneath him as he reached her sopping pussy, her unique scent driving him wild as always. He parted her lips and kissed her, rubbing tiny circles on her clit with his thumb. His other hand reached beneath her to fondle her ass as he began sucking her, his tongue laving and prodding her wetness until he could take no more. Rising up, he coaxed her legs apart with his knees and positioned himself. As he looked into her desire-glazed eyes, he moved, pushing into her with one hard thrust.

Then he stilled. It had been as tight as their first time. “Did I hurt you?”

“Uh, uh.” She shook her head as her body began to move, encouraging him to pull out and push into her warmth again.

She grabbed his hips, pulling him closer, deeper, and they fell into a rhythm that told of their familiarity with each other. It was as if he’d gone back in time, back to the days of love and laughter, caring and sharing their lives, completing each other. He thrust in and out, faster, harder, seeking the rapture he’d only found with the woman lying beneath him.

Thought took a long, slow ride after that as they concentrated on catching up on years of lost loving, and he was pleased to note, she still had that deep, husky, pleading note in her voice when she screamed his name.

And to continue this week’s birthday celebration, following are the blogs participating. This is a Blog Hop29 entries so far…

Have Fun Hopping!

Winners will be posted on Oct. 3rd
