Review of Darke Heat by Nese Ellyson!!!

Published October 18, 2014 by Lorraine Nelson - Author

Nese Ellyson is a friend and critique partner. Her debut novel with MasterKoda Select Publishing, Darke Heat, is set to release on November 23rd. It’s one you won’t want to miss.

I’ve had the pleasure of watching this book grow from a tiny idea into a full novel and loved it all the way. Here’s my review:WWL

Paige Connor is a highly respected trainer of drug and bomb sniffing dogs. Her dysfunctional upbringing has her wanting to create a home, a sanctuary, for herself and her twin brothers.

Bryce Prescott is a DEA Agent and has managed to get on Paige’s list of people to avoid. After spending one fateful night together, he returns to work and takes one of her dogs with him. The dog gets pregnant and there’s hell to pay.

Paige becomes the target of some nasty people when she buys a farm in Darke County and disrupts their illegal business dealings. And who else but Bryce arrives to protect her…the man who used her to get one of her dogs.

Her anger with him is hot but the passion between them flares hotter as they work together to solve the crimes happening in their county.

An excellent read. I give it 5 stars.

You’ll definitely want to add this one to your TBR pile.

Shadow Man (Lash Series Book 2) by Tara Fox Hall – Virtual Blog Tour

My Thoughts:

Shadow Man is the 2nd book in the Lash Series by Tara Fox Hall. It is a book of blooming happiness, heated desire, and debilitating grief. The author takes you through an amazing array of emotions as we follow Lash…his life, his loves, his loss. If you like shifter stories, you’re sure to enjoy Lash’s journey as a weresnake.

Shadow Man Blurb:

A renegade vampire begins amassing a flock of true believers, threatening America’s vampire hierarchy. Weresnake Lash partners with old enemy Danial and new allies Burl and Spiderboy to track down and annihilate them. Betrayed and left for dead, Lash reemerges the victor, edging ever upward in the Assassin’s Ranking, and catching the eye of the sultry nightclub singer Cassandra Nile. Drawn into drugs by Cassie, Lash begins to doubt himself, yearning to leave his life of violence, even as enemies close in from every side. When catastrophe strikes again, and Hill House is destroyed, Lash flees north to Devlin, again pledging service to a Vampire Ruler in return for both safety and revenge. Horrifically injured saving Devlin’s life, Lash is granted a potion to tremendously slow his aging, along with an evil request. Healed yet disheartened, Lash returns to his old friend Jasmine, who urges him to take Devlin’s offer.

Review – Sinful Urges by Sonia Hightower

Published May 25, 2012 by Lorraine Nelson - Author

Today I had the opportunity to download Sinful Urges free at Amazon. The blurb had me curious, so I opened it and started reading. Wow! I never realized a confessional could be so explicit.

Tara Chevrestt, writing as Sonia Hightower, packed a powerful punch in this tale of adultery and absolution. The characters were real. The anguish they were going through for their lustful thoughts was also very real. I was drawn into their world from the first page and couldn’t stop reading.

Ms. Chevrestt writes about real life issues. Adultery being one of many. It happens. This book shows the ramifications of sinning. How adultery, or thoughts of committing it, can have serious repercussions. I won’t reveal any spoilers here, but the surprise twist at the end had me in tears.

Thank you, Tara/Sonia,for such an interesting read. Well done!

Follow the confessions of Juan and Maria as they fall prey to lust at first sight. Can they stop themselves before it’s too late, or will they become victims of their own sinful urges?

A new neighbor sends Juan running to confession to rid himself of the lustful thoughts he experiences. Each confession becomes more erotic, more sinful than the last. Can Juan stop himself, or will he give in to the desire that threatens his very faith?

The man across the street causes Maria to question her own morals. When she seeks out a priest for confession, she weaves a tale of exotic kisses and stolen moments. How can Maria find sanctuary in her prayers when her body demands she finds solace in her neighbor’s arms?

Next up for me is Afterburn.

Their love burns hot, but will it stay fueled?

Crystal is an enlisted mechanic with a tragic past. Grant is an officer and a pilot with a broken heart. When faced with a difficult decision, will Crystal choose wisely or lose the best thing that ever happened to her?

The love between them burns hot, but their relationship won’t stay fueled if they can’t beat the obstacles that stand in their way. Besides breaking the fraternization rules, Grant and Crystal have the difference of race between them…but can they prove to the rest of the world, and to each other, that love is color blind?

Afterburn is about overcoming one’s past, not judging others, learning to forgive, and what it’s like to be a woman in a “man’s world.”

Yahoo!!! 5 Star Review for Covert Mission: Undercover Cop

Published March 5, 2012 by Lorraine Nelson - Author

This just in from Book Obsessed Chicks!
Samantha, aka Sam to all her friends, loses her arm while in the service and wants to prove to everyone that she is independent and self-sufficient, mainly to the men. She even owns her own dry cleaning business! But what most people don’t know is that Sam lost more than her arm while in the service and now does not feel like a “whole” woman.
She meets Blake through her good friend Zakia and they automatically have chemistry, but Sam is not looking for any kind of commitment or the complications associated with “relationships”. Blake is every woman’s dream – a tall, dark, and handsome cowboy, but she tells him from the get go she only wants to be friends.

When Blake first sees Sam getting out of her Chevy Tracker he knows that she was the woman for him. He does not see her as anything but a beautiful woman and discovers right away that she is as prickly and independent as they come. Sam keeps telling him over and over again that she does not do relationships, but he wants more than “just friends” and he’s willing to wait and bide his time for her to come around and see that he doesn’t see her prosthesis, just a sexy woman.
When Zakia’s stalker escapes and comes after Samantha, she comes to understand that Blake is there for her and what he is willing to sacrifice to keep her safe and yes, protect and help her. Can Sam overcome the feeling she has of being less than a whole woman? And when she tells Blake everything that she lost in the army, will he still want her and think that she is the woman for him and give him everything he wants and deserves?

Lorraine Nelson’s writing takes you along with her and the love of her characters at Thunder Creek. You have moments where you want to either shake Sam or hug her for everything that she has gone through. She makes you dream about your own Blake, and that others do not always see us the way we see ourselves.

Review – Atticus for the Undead by John Abramowitz

Published February 4, 2012 by Lorraine Nelson - Author

Tonight I had the pleasure of reading a new author and I must say, I’m impressed. I enjoy legal thrillers…John Grisham being one of my favorite authors. Paranormal, not so much, but this book is a splendid mix of the two.

When John sent me this book to review he brazenly stated, “I’m fairly confident that if you start this one, you won’t be able to stop. :)” I thought, okay, we’ll see. Well, I’m happy to say he was absolutely right! I received it at one o’clock this morning, intending to read it tomorrow. Yeah, right! It is now five-twenty in the morning and I just finished it. Yes, it was that good.

Hunter Gamble is a lawyer who makes a living from defending arcanes—paranormals, who are allowed to co-exist with humans in his world. And he’s very good at it.

Samuel Pollard is a zombie accused of murder and he hires Hunter to defend him. So begins a fast-paced, haunting tale of unforgettable drama—one you won’t want to put down.

John Abramowitz has written a futuristic version of legal thriller mixed with paranormal. This novel is one of the best I’ve read in years. It’s looking like Mr. Abramowitz has a brilliant writing career ahead of him.

Thank you, John, for allowing me to read and review your work.

Atticus for the Undead can be purchased at Amazon.
