Evernight is Almost One Year Old

Published September 20, 2011 by Lorraine Nelson - Author

October 1st is Evernight Publishing’s first birthday and they’re stronger than ever. To celebrate, they’re having a week long party for authors and readers, Sept. 25 – Oct. 2nd. Join in for a fantastic time of blog hopping and giveaways.

Evernight will choose one commenter from EACH participating blog to win a $5.00 Gift Certificate. In addition, Evernight will choose three separate commenters from ANY of the blogs to win one of three grand prizes: a new Kindle eReader, $50.00 U.S. (gifted via PayPal), and a $40.00 Evernight Gift Certificate. Not sure what the 3rd prize is, but I’ll keep you posted.

Also, on October 1st only ALL e-books will be 75% off on the Evernight Website.

Now, on the personal front:

Final edits for Zakia and the Cowboy were finished and sent yesterday afternoon. Impatiently waiting for the actual release date and hoping it’ll be out before October 1st. 🙂

Still tweaking His Christmas Wish and hoping to have Mistletoe and Mr. Hoe available for sale in ebook form by Nov. 1st.

Round One Edits

Published August 28, 2011 by Lorraine Nelson - Author

Finished my first round edits on Zakia and the Cowboy on Thursday and sent them off. They weren’t nearly as troublesome as I’d expected. Now I’m waiting for Emma to review what I’ve done and set me up for the next round. Still in line for the book to be released in October, 2011.

Meanwhile, I’ve submitted a short story for the EP Christmas anthology. Waiting to hear as I work on the sequel to Zakia, Trouble at Thunder Creek.

Edits have Arrived!

Zakia and the Cowboy, coming soon from Evernight Publishing

Zakia and the Cowboy… coming soon from Evernight Publishing

My life as an author includes edits. Mine arrived last night for Zakia and the Cowboy, the first book in my Thunder Creek series. Managed to get the first couple of chapters done before bed and am about to tackle them again. So far, nothing too major.

One of the things I still do is two spaces after a period. Have. to. stop. that! 219 pages, and an untold number of sentences, after which I have to delete one space. Betcha I won’t make that mistake again. lol Now that I know, I’ll have to go through my other manuscripsts and do the same thing. Oh well, one at a time.

I need to do a little work with dialogue tags and ramp up the heat a bit. So far, so good. Doable. As I progress, I’ll find out what else Emma has in store for me. 🙂 So it’s back to the editing cave for me.

Happy reading and writing to all!

Have a great day!

Hi all!  Wonderful news!

Yesterday I signed contracts for two full-length novels with Evernight Publishing out of Barrie, Ontario.  Both books are in the Contemporary Romantic Suspense genre.

Zakia & the Cowboy, Book 1 in the Thunder Creek Ranch series, (originally the Triple D Ranch series) is scheduled for release in October, 2011. Evernight also wants first dibs on the sequels. Yay!

The second book, Love on the Rocks, is scheduled for release in November, 2011. This book is dear to me in that it basically starts and ends near my home. As a single parent, I know first hand how difficult it can be to make ends meet and how desperate things can seem when we are trying to provide for our childrens’ needs. Too bad we couldn’t all have an ‘Anthony’ to set things right.

Can I admit to being just a little excited as I sit here waiting for the first run of edits? 🙂

Revisions! Urgh!

Published June 27, 2011 by Lorraine Nelson - Author

Revisions are a necessary evil in this business. Lately, I’ve been up to my neck in them but that’s because I let them sit as I tackled the editor’s advice and in the process, learned more about the craft.

I also wrote three new stories since November, a novel and two novellas, and started a couple more that I have yet to finish. I did manage to complete revisons on Love on the Rocks this past week and Zakia & the Cowboy is almost done. I’m making headway and it feels great! I can’t believe how much my writing has improved. Always did enjoy the challenge of learning and applying what I’ve learned.

Writing is in my blood. According to Mom, my grandmother always dreamed of writing a book someday. Sadly, she’s gone, but I will dedicate one of my books to her and to Mom for standing by me and encouraging me in my dream.

Now, to finish Zakia and then on to revisions for Loving in Lostwood before another new idea grabs me and off I go on a writing spree again. Good luck to all the other writers out there. Enjoy your summer but take time to write, too. It’s who we are.
