2014 msg

Yes, it’s that time of year again. Christmas is coming. Will you be ready?

It really doesn’t matter. It’ll come anyway. 🙂 I love Christmas, especially the spirit of giving to those you love. Whether it be emotional, spiritual, or something physical you buy or make yourself, it’s all done with the best of intentions. Sometimes the best thing you can do for others is give your time. Let your friends and family know you love them and are there for them, no matter what.

My mom and I used to get together and do our baking every year just to give most of it away. LOL. Unfortunately, that won’t happen this year as she is terminally ill and, for the most part, bedridden. My one wish is that she lasts out the year without any pain. So far so good. She says she feels fine and always has a smile for us. I love her so much. She is so proud of me for following my dream of being a writer…a published author, and of my sister, Sharon Wilson-Dupuis, for drawing these beautiful covers.

If you’re buying your loved one an electronic device, Kindle or whatnot, my Hudson Ranch series with its beautifully illustrated covers is sure to please. They are available online and book 1, The Inheritance is free today until Monday. The other 3 books in this series are only 99 cents each for the same 4 days. Download a copy with my heartfelt blessings for the very Merriest of Christmases. Just click on the book cover and you’re there, no matter where you live. 🙂

This short story is an introduction to the series.

Time is running out for Zackary Hudson. He has a fierce desire to reunite with his estranged sons, but they’re proving difficult to find. He hires a private investigator and the search begins in earnest. But will he find them in time?

Rodeo cowboy Benjamin Hudson is one of four brothers set to inherit their father’s ranch in northern Alberta. The only problem is, the three oldest have been estranged from Zackary Hudson for years. Their father’s will states they have to live on the ranch for one year, show a profit, and care for their baby brother. The main problems…none of them know anything about running a working ranch or caring for an infant. They decide to hire domestic help for the primary care of Jeremiah.

Halifax native, Danielle Madison, wants to escape the pain of an abusive marriage and the resultant stillborn child. She sees the ad for a nanny on a ranch in Alberta, applies, and flies west without a second thought. For Dani it’s work only, with no intention of becoming involved until she meets Benjamin, the tough-as-nails ex rodeo rider, who handles his baby brother with great gentleness and compassion. Little Jeremiah pulls at her heartstrings, and she’s drawn to him, despite her resolve to remain aloof.

Love is not in Ben’s vocabulary, except as it applies to his lost siblings. When things start disappearing and going wrong, Dani is Ben’s initial suspect. He’s attracted to her, despite her withdrawn persona, and tries to believe in her innocence as they work together to solve the mysterious happenings. Will love win out, or will the fear of commitment drive a permanent wedge between them?

Blurb:

He’d been duped!

Busy attending the victims of a fire on the Hudson Ranch and cleaning up after his veterinary clinic is vandalized, Gabe Hudson hires an assistant through email, based on qualifications. When Kristin appears, ready to work, he discovers he’s been duped. Thinking he’d hired a male practitioner who could help with their huge patients, he is totally baffled at her willingness to take on such a task.

Angry at first, he soon discovers how capable she is, seeming to have an affinity with the animals they tended. It didn’t hurt that her voice was soft and sexy and she was easy on the eyes to boot, but her entire demeanor was of a ‘hands off’ attitude. His growing affection and attraction to the woman were making his days harried and his nights a living hell. Combine that with trying to keep her safe as a psycho targets the clinic, and he’s afraid to let her out of his sight.

Blurb:

Nate’s job as an accountant is to get the Ranch’s accounts in order and bring in new business, so he hires his neighbor, Cyndi Dillon, as his assistant. She’s efficient and capable and oh so desirable, but Nate doesn’t believe in mixing business with pleasure.

Her job is everything she’d dreamed of and more, but she’s harboring a secret that could jeopardize their working relationship. The one thing Cyndi hadn’t counted on was falling for the shy accountant. He’s drop-dead gorgeous and looks great in Levis, but wasn’t it just her luck to fall for a pretend cowboy when she’d grown up around the real thing?

Someone doesn’t want the boys to inherit their father’s ranch and will do anything to get what they want. When problems on the spread escalate, will personal safety get in the way of their future or does love really conquer all?

Praise for the Hudson Ranch series as found on Amazon:

5 Stars: Once again, Lorraine Nelson, one of today’s best new authors, has created a series that reflects her trademark gifts for writing romantic suspense set against an intriguing backdrop—this time a working horse ranch in the Canadian west—and filled with engrossing dialogue and characters so unforgettable you’ll quickly forget you’re reading fiction.      Michelle Fayard

5 Stars: This is a series that is well worth the money and time. I have read many books by this author and her books pull at the heart strings and make you want to fall in love all over again.

5 Stars: In this new series by Lorraine Nelson, which has beautiful cover-art, she introduces us to the Hudsons. If you are familiar with Lorraine’s Thunder Creek Ranch Series and the Manning family, then you already know how incredibly amazing her families are. Each features strong female leads, HOT ranchers and families that we all wish we knew personally. Giving Thanks for 2014

Published December 31, 2014 by Lorraine Nelson - Author

A hearty and heart-felt ‘Hello’ to all my followers!

Another year is ending in just a few hours and here I am at home with my family, including two of my grandchildren, Sammy, age 10, and Alexis, age 4. I wouldn’t want to be anywhere else.

I love spending time with family whether it be in conversation, baking their favorite treats, cooking big meals, playing board and card games, reading, and just enjoying their company. We don’t have snow at the moment or I’d be watching them play and build snowmen, snow forts, or ride on the snowmobile with Josh, my youngest son. The weather station is forecasting a major storm on Sunday, but Sammy goes home on Saturday. That’s all right though. We’ve enjoyed his visit tremendously.

I don’t get out much at this time of year as the cold dampness plays havoc with my arthritis, but I can have hot chocolate and treats ready for when they come inside. 🙂

2014 saw the completion of my Hudson Ranch series for which my very talented sister, Sharon Wilson-Dupuis drew the covers. Aren’t they beautiful? The entire series is available in both ebook and print form on Amazon. The Inheritance

I also wrote and released another Christmas novella in October. Her Christmas Wishes is about a cowgirl, stranded at the family lodge during a blizzard when a Her Christmas Wishes 2stranger happens by. This story met with great success and I am so happy to hear that those of you who read it really enjoyed it. 🙂 About the only complaint I get on my novellas is that they are too short. lol Readers want more and that pleases me.

Most of my stories are 50,000 words or more, so I guess I can understand my reader’s expectations in that regard.

We had an excellent Christmas this year. All three of my sons and their families were present and 4 out of 6 grandchildren were able to be here for the turkey feast. I’d done plenty of baking and was able to send each one home with home-baked goodies, as I try to do every year. Mom and I get together every year and bake. This year we made Christmas Morning Loaf (a sweet, fruit bread that we love) and donuts, also a favorite. You’ll find the recipes under the recipe tab at the top of this post.

New Release!!! The Inheritance, Hudson Ranch, #1

Published September 19, 2013 by Lorraine Nelson - Author

I am super excited to announce that The Inheritance, the first book in my Hudson Ranch series, is now available on Amazon. Not only that, but it’s FREE today through September 23rd. Grab your copy and settle in for a short but interesting read. 🙂

InheritanceWRibbon

Notice the expert detail in the cover? My talented sister, Sharon Wilson-Dupuis, is a portrait artist and has drawn for as many years as I’ve been writing…since we were very, very young. We always said that one day we’d do a book together and now we’re doing four. LOL Yes, original artwork coming for all four Hudson Ranch covers.

We’ve dedicated this book to our mother, Frances Wilson. Thank you for always believing in us and encouraging us to do our best. Love you Mom! xoxo

The Inheritance is a short story that serves as an introduction to the series–one which I hope you will enjoy.

Blurb:
Time is running out for Zackary Hudson. He has a fierce desire to reunite with his estranged sons, but they’re proving difficult to find. He hires a private investigator and the search begins in earnest.

Excerpt:

Zack took a good look around as they walked toward the house. It could use a coat of paint this year and the porch needed to be re-stained. He’d shore up the hinges on the sagging screen door and caulk the windows while he was at it. If he started on repairs right away, he might have them done before…before—damn! His breath caught in his throat and he had to make a determined effort to breathe…to appear normal. He wasn’t afraid of dying, but he hated the thought of leaving Bianca to raise their son and run the ranch alone.

“I’m going to try and locate my sons,” he announced as he jogged around the kitchen with Jerry on his back. It was a large country kitchen, recently remodeled to reflect Bianca’s taste and needs. “I should have done it years ago.”

“Good, but after all this time, they might not be so happy to hear from you.”

“Well, Rita may have prevented my ‘interference’ in their lives through a court order during their growing years, but the triplets would be twenty-seven now. Young men able to make their own decisions. I’d like to find them, make amends for not being there for them, if I can.”

Bianca turned and shook the salad spoon at him. “Zackary Hudson, you have nothing to make amends for. You’ve provided money, clothing, and toys all these years, for which they should be grateful.”

He smiled at the vehemence in her words as he buckled Jeremiah into his highchair. “They might not see it that way. Hopefully, Rita hasn’t moved out of the house I bought for them. Surely, she’d give me their current addresses.”

“I would hope so.”

“I’ll check with Bart after lunch and see if he has a phone number for her. That would save me from having to meet with her.”

“That’s a great idea. Why not let him do the digging for information? Lawyers have a way of getting to the truth of things that we know nothing about.”

“True enough. But he also charges a small fortune for his services. I can handle a phone call if he has the number.”

“Okay. It’s your choice. I just hope she’ll be reasonable about your wanting to see them.”

“Doesn’t matter. One way or the other, I’m going to find my sons.” A sudden thought came to him then. Would they want to move to the ranch? Help run things in his absence? He didn’t know what kind of men they’d grown up to be, but he’d find them and feel them out on the subject. They’d earn a share of the ranch upon his demise and that just might prove incentive enough. If so, it would ease his current burden somewhat.

“Why so determined all of a sudden?”

“He glanced over at his wife of five years and noted that her face was pinched in a worried frown. “They have a right to know where they came from. This ranch is their heritage, too. I just want them to know that.”

“Uh huh. And what aren’t you telling me?” she asked as she set the table.

“Later, love. I’ll explain everything after we’ve eaten.”
Maybe by then I’ll be able to come up with the words to tell you.

Ready to read more? Remember, it’s FREE! My gift to you for being such loyal fans. Love you all!
