99 Cent Sale!

Published August 1, 2016 by Lorraine Nelson - Author

Today is a beautiful day here in New Brunswick and it’s a wonderful day for my readers.

Zakia and the Cowboy is on sale for 99 cents! This is the novel that launched my career and gave validity to my writing. It became a bestseller on Amazon, All Romance eBooks, and Bookstrand. It was a top pick at Night Owl Reviews and Book of the month in 2011 at the To Be Read Pile reviews. It also launched the Thunder Creek Ranch series with Evernight Publishing, which now totals 8 books with 2 more planned.

Next up is Abby’s Intent followed by A Thunder Creek Christmas, which will complete this series.

I have truly enjoyed writing these novels of romantic suspense. The town, the ranches, and the people will live in my heart and in my books forever. If you haven’t yet read Zakia and the Cowboy, I urge you to grab a copy while it’s on sale.

Blurb:

With a stalker following her every move, Zakia has no choice but to flee the city. Her options limited, she runs to the only place she’s ever felt safe…the Thunder Creek Ranch and her ex-husband, Lucas.

Will he protect Zakia from the stalker? And if he does will either of them be able to ignore the feelings that have simmered for so long, ready to explode… before danger either draws them together or pulls them apart.

Excerpt:

“Sorry, Darlin’. Always a cowboy,” he apologized.

Luke sat on the edge of the bed and struggled to remove his cowboy boots, then disposed of pants, briefs and socks. When he looked up and saw the still smooth, silky skin of her upper torso and full breasts partially covered by her beautiful, long, blonde hair, he had to ask himself how he got to be so lucky. Déjà vu was very much in existence as he admired the woman standing before him. Zakia was still every bit the exquisite, sexy woman she’d been on their wedding night, only now she was trying hard not to giggle.

“What’s so funny,” he asked with a grin as he reached for her.

“Just a little touch of déjà vu going on.”

“I was thinking the same thing. You’re just as beautiful now as you were on our wedding night,” he stated as he pulled her back into his arms.

“Well, I was thinking it funny that you said those exact same words on our wedding night.”

“What words?” he asked, curious and trying to think.

“Sorry, Darlin’. Always a cowboy.”

“Ooohh, those words. It’s true. A cowboy doesn’t go too far without his boots.”

“Did you mean it, Luke?”

“Mean what?”

“That you still think I’m beautiful.”

“Do I need to install mirrors on every wall in the house?” he teased. “Yes, you are the most beautiful woman I’ve ever seen, and sexily built. Now, shut up and kiss me.”

“Oh, I so like a man who knows what he wants,” she cooed.

When she reached for him, pulling him down for a kiss filled with all the passion he remembered, his heart soared. Gone was the polite restraint they’d held to since her arrival. He kissed her back, longing for more, aching for the promise her lips delivered.

His hands moved to her breasts, rubbing and tweaking the nipples to turgid peaks, then massaging the silken softness until she moaned against his mouth in pleasure. Breaking the kiss, he took one rosy nipple into his mouth, sucking and nipping lightly before transferring his attention to the other one.

He worked his way down her body, one kiss at a time, having to keep a tight rein on his control as she breathed his name over and over again. Her body writhed beneath him as he reached her sopping pussy, her unique scent driving him wild as always. He parted her lips and kissed her, rubbing tiny circles on her clit with his thumb. His other hand reached beneath her to fondle her ass as he began sucking her, his tongue laving and prodding her wetness until he could take no more. Rising up, he coaxed her legs apart with his knees and positioned himself. As he looked into her desire-glazed eyes, he moved, pushing into her with one hard thrust.

Then he stilled. It had been as tight as their first time. “Did I hurt you?”

“Uh, uh.” She shook her head as her body began to move, encouraging him to pull out and push into her warmth again.

She grabbed his hips, pulling him closer, deeper, and they fell into a rhythm that told of their familiarity with each other. It was as if he’d gone back in time, back to the days of love and laughter, caring and sharing their lives, completing each other. He thrust in and out, faster, harder, seeking the rapture he’d only found with the woman lying beneath him.

Thought took a long, slow ride after that as they concentrated on catching up on years of lost loving, and he was pleased to note, she still had that deep, husky, pleading note in her voice when she screamed his name.

I do love my cowboys. LOL

New Release, Cover Reveal, & a giveaway!

Published July 15, 2016 by Lorraine Nelson - Author

Hello, my friends! I’m so excited! Today begins the blog tour for my new release and I get to announce a sale. Yes, you heard right. Cowboy Dreamin’ is the 8th installment in my Thunder Creek Ranch series and it’s available now. Also, Zakia and the Cowboy, book 1, is on sale this week for 99 cents.cowboydreami'.sm

Don’t you just love that cover? I know I do. 🙂 The Manning/Grayson clan is a family bonded together through love and hardship. I’ve enjoyed creating this series where the family protects its own. This is Jack Grayson’s story and I just know you’re going to love reading it as much as I enjoyed writing it.

Warning: Sexual Content

Here’s the blurb for Cowboy Dreamin’…

Jack Grayson finished university and he’s ready to go home and take over the family spread. Allison Wakefield is the new vet in town. When they first meet, sparks fly and tempers soar. But their love grows when Jack helps Allison through a vulnerable time in her life.

When they are both plagued with vandalism, it quickly accelerates to attempted murder. Somebody doesn’t want them together. Can they figure out who has it in for them before someone gets killed?

Intrigued? Ready for a teaser excerpt?

“You’re good at what you do, and you have a love for animals. With some, it’s the love of money that drives them, whether animal or people doctors.”

“That is so sad, but unfortunately true in some cases. All I’ve ever wanted to be is a veterinarian. I do love animals.”

“Then how come you don’t have a dog or cat of your own?” Jack asked.

“I never knew where I’d end up. Mama always said that to move with a cat is bad luck and, as for dogs, it wouldn’t be fair to have one and have to keep it caged all the time. I work long hours.”

“Yes, I know.”

The speaker came on, and a disembodied voice informed them that visiting hours were now over.

Allison gathered up her bag and leaned down to kiss Jack before leaving. “I’ll be back to see you tomorrow after the clinic closes, barring emergencies.”

“I’ll look forward to it, but call first in case they let me out of here.”

“Will do. Night, Jack.”

“Good-night, Allison. Thanks for dinner.”

She smiled, kissed him good-bye, and left. Although she’d much rather have stayed with Jack, his eyelids were drooping and she figured he’d had enough company for one day. Other than all the bandages he was plastered with, he seemed fine.

Allison nodded and smiled at the security guard standing outside of Jack’s room. He hadn’t been there when she arrived. Probably because Michael had been. “Keep him safe.”

He smiled back. “That’s why my boss, Michael Grayson, called me here. That family takes care of its own.”

“So I’ve heard.”

During the drive home, Allison couldn’t help but wonder who had it in for Jack. Although she hadn’t known him long, she knew he was a kind, caring man. She just couldn’t picture him with enemies—unless one of his classmates was overly jealous of him. Hadn’t Winnie mentioned that he’d been valedictorian? That took a lot of smarts, but didn’t usually make enemies.

He’d had a tire slashed, his truck scratched, and now this. It really was a good thing that he hadn’t headed toward town. All those sharp turns…

She shuddered just thinking about it.

Jack loved that truck. Someone was hitting hard, and it had to be personal. If they wanted him dead, he’d likely be dead by now. Was all this a warning of some kind? No, cutting a brake line was more than a warning. Someone definitely wanted Jack dead.

And now the blurb for Zakia and the Cowboy…

With a stalker following her every move, Zakia has no choice but to flee the city. Her options limited, she runs to the only place she’s ever felt safe…the Thunder Creek Ranch and her ex-husband, Lucas.

Will he protect Zakia from the stalker? And if he does will either of them be able to ignore the feelings that have simmered for so long, ready to explode… before danger either draws them together or pulls them apart.

Characters…Choosing names to Suit

Published January 26, 2016 by Lorraine Nelson - Author

Do you struggle with naming your characters? Believe it or not, I don’t. A name is sometimes the first thing that strikes me…as in Zakia and the Cowboy.

I worked at a call center in town until my health got the best of me. One night, while I was answering phones, a caller named Zakia came on the line. The name stuck in my head long after the call ended and I found myself jotting quick notes to go with the name.

Zakia, exotic name, needs a hero with simple name, ergo, Luke.

ZATC_SM

Now Available in Print!!!

Zakia, long blond hair, emerald green eyes, 5’8″ tall

Zakia, banker’s daughter, wealthy family, used to socializing, partying, and having attention

Zakia, interests include, cooking, baking, gardening, and charity work

Zakia and Luke, married young, divorced young

Luke, third generation rancher in Alberta

Luke, collar length blond hair, sapphire blue eyes, 6’4″

Luke, rancher, thinks Zakia left him because she got bored with ranch life, when in truth she hated competing with the ranch for his attention.

All of this I jotted down between calls that same night and Zakia and the Cowboy was born. I now had a NanoWriMo project for November.

Only I couldn’t wait. 🙂

Nano was only about a week away but the characters kept talking to me (Yep, they really did!) until I sat down and began writing their story. At first, it was just hand-written pages between calls at work, but when I sat down to type up my notes, the story kept unfolding. It was getting really good and by the time Nano officially started on November 1st, I was 13042 words into Zakia and Luke’s story, and I now knew that it would be a romantic suspense as the villain had also popped in to speak his mind. lol I really had a lot of fun writing this story.

2009 was my first Nano and I was determined to write 50,000 words, which was required to finish Nano through the Harlequin forum. (I didn’t realize there was an official Nano site at that time).

Here’s how it went:

National Novel Writing Month, 2009!

Zakia & The Cowboy: Started with 13042 Words
Nov 1 – 4791…17833
2 – 3990…21823
3 – 2995…24818
4 – 4778…29596
5 – 3523…33119
6 – 0
7 – 3060…36179
8 – 1618…37797
9 – 3217…41014
10 – 1135…42149
11 – 4340…46489
12 – 3134…49623
13 – 3693…53316
14 – 3620…56936

(NaNo words: 43894)

I finished Zakia and the Cowboy, edited it, and sent it off to my critique partners. As we were only halfway through November and I already had the outline and beginning of another story, Daydreams & Night Scenes, I decided to finish it.

In this story, I needed a name for the heroine that could double as a man’s name. She became Miranda, Randi to her friends. The hero is a rich playboy and I decided on Alexander, a strong name that the hero has to live up to by the end of the book. 🙂

This novel is, as yet, unpublished, but I just submitted it to a publisher. If they don’t offer a contract, I’ll self-publish it as planned.

Daydreams & Night Scenes: Started with 12604 Words
15 – 0…12604
16 – 1477…14081
17 – 4968…19049
18 – 2517…21566
19 – 3581…25147
20 – 1459…26606
21 – 573…27179
22 – 5163…32342
23 – 3256…35598
24 – 4402…40000
25 – 5110…45110
26 – 3265…48375
27 – 1726…50101

(NaNo words: 37497)

Urgh! This story was finished and I still had 3 days left. I was on a roll! Went searching my files for another story not finished (I always have a few. lol) and found Once in This Lifetime.

Her Unlikely Bodyguard_200x300Jemma Leigh is the name of the heroine in this story. Why? Because it popped into my head at the right time. 🙂 It was a distinctly feminine name for a strong woman, proving that a woman could be both. Theodore, her Teddy Bear from high school, had graduated and joined the army. Years later, Jemma Leigh and Ted are both back in their hometown and second chances just might be possible as they reunite and he appoints himself her bodyguard against the stalker who’s threatened her.

I later changed the title to Her Unlikely Bodyguard as Danielle Steel, one of my favorite authors, has a book out titled Once in This Lifetime. 🙂

Once In This Lifetime: Started with 18169 Words
27 – 1433…19602
28 – 6068…25670
29 – 6374…32044
30 – 5418…37462

(NaNo words: 19293)

I’d finished two novels and got well over halfway through the 3rd in 30 days. (28 really as I had two 0 word days) My end total was 100,684 words. Needless to say, I was impressed. I never thought I had that many words in me, but my poor fingers. lol I’d really put my 30 wpm typing speed to the test.

I’ve never managed to write that much in one month since, (Marketing and Promo take its toll) but it sure gave me a jump start in the publishing world. I submitted Zakia and the Cowboy to various publishers and suffered through 14 rejections until it was picked up by Evernight Publishing. They’ve been an excellent company to work with. By then I was writing the sequel, Covert Mission: Undercover Cop. I now have 7 books in the Thunder Creek Ranch series and #8, A Cowboy’s Drive, is in the works. I hope to finish the series this year with book #10, A Manning Christmas.

I hope this post has helped you in some way. If you have any questions, I’d be happy to answer them. Just post in the comment section. In the meantime, happy reading and writing to all of you. 🙂

Contract is signed!

Published May 19, 2015 by Lorraine Nelson - Author

The Manning family is growing!

I’ve just signed the contract for the seventh book in my Thunder Creek Ranch series. Kidnapped: The Search for Casey will be released in July. Yay, Evernight Publishing! I’m so excited!

Here’s the unofficial blurb:

Six-year-old Casey Manning has been kidnapped!

His cousin, Lynne Kerrigan, and Private Investigator, Trent Erikson, join forces to search for him…a search that takes them beyond the Atlantic Ocean to war-torn Afghanistan. They spend several days and nights together as they travel across a foreign country full of danger while following the kidnappers’ trail.

They are hot for each other and as they spend time together, things get even hotter. She loves Trent and hopes to have children some day, but Trent has been down that road before and isn’t interested in marrying a second time. So once back on Canadian soil with a happy Casey in tow, Lynne sends Trent away, even though her heart is breaking.

Trent goes back to Vancouver but finds he cannot forget his fiery-haired beauty. Would he be the one to compromise? Or would Lynne wake up and realize they were living in the twenty-first century?

I can’t wait to see what the artist comes up with for a cover to this one. All my Evernight covers to date have been amazing. I’m planning two more books in this series, which will bring it to a close. And in case you may have missed them, below are the covers for previous books available at Evernight and all online retail outlets.

Happy Birthday to Me!

Today is my third birthday as a published author and I’m sitting here wondering what to write about. LOL Now, that’s not exactly true.

Now Available in Print!!!

Now Available in Print!!!

I want to thank you…my readers, my fans. In three short years I’ve released 23 titles. Your feedback has kept me going and I love that I can entertain you with my stories of romance and suspense. I can remember my debut release, Zakia and the Cowboy, Book 1 in my Thunder Creek Ranch series, and how you catapulted it to

bestseller status in just two days. I was thrilled with the reviews and the comments I received from you. I’m now working on Book 7  in the series and if someone had told me three years ago that the series would still be ongoing today, I don’t think I would’ve believed it. 🙂 I love the Manning family and the bonds they’ve formed. They look out for each other and that’s how family should be.

Other books in this series:

The Inheritance

My Hudson Ranch family is different in that it features three brothers facing insurmountable odds to receive their inheritance. The first book, The Inheritance, is a short lead-in to the series. I’m pleased to note that my sister, Sharon Wilson-Dupuis, drew these four gorgeous covers. The detail she puts into her work is amazing.

And of course, I have single titles (Including Christmas titles) available. 🙂 Please feel free to visit my website and browse through the titles. There are blurbs, excerpts, and reviews listed there as well as purchase links.

Or visit my Author Page on Amazon. An easy link to all my books.

So, once again I thank you and look forward to hearing from you.

Now, about that question…

Here’s a short excerpt to tease you:

She stood to follow him to the door, but found herself hauled up against his muscular chest as he treated her to another scorching kiss.

“Woman, you’re driving me crazy.”

Pushing away from him she asked, “Me? What did I do?”

“Now that I know what’s hidden under that robe, my hands are itching to peel it off you again.”

“What’s stopping you?” she said as she swiftly untied the sash, shrugged the robe off her shoulders and let it drop to the floor.

Just as fast was his reaction as he picked her straight up in the air and set her down on the counter. He chuckled in response to her shriek as the smooth, icy marble met her bare backside and she arched backward, supporting her weight on her hands. Quick to take advantage, he swooped in to devour her breasts with his hands and mouth.

Her legs wrapped around him of their own volition, urging him closer, closer…and then his cell phone rang.

He ceased ministering to her body and allowed his head to rest in the valley of her newly sensitized orbs. She ran her fingers through his hair, a touch on the long side for a man in his profession, her actions serving to hold him against her.

“I have to go,” he mumbled against her skin.

“I know.”

“We’ll finish this later,” he said, promise inherent in his words.

“Okay.”

He lifted his head and covered her mouth with his, their tongues mating, creating their own magic as they thrust and parried, suckled and withdrew. His hands cupped her buttocks as he lifted her and set her on her feet.

“This is the first time that I allowed anything or anybody to come between me and my job. What kind of spell have you cast over me?” he teased.

“Not a strong enough one, apparently.” Then seeing his confusion, she added, “You’re only human. The job isn’t the sum total of who you are as a man.”

“Maybe not, but I’ve measured myself by it for a long time.”

“Then maybe you were due for a change.” She smoothed his hair back into place with her hands.

“You could be right. We’ll discuss this later. Right now, I have to see how Rob is and if forensics found anything downstairs, then I’ll have them come up here.” His eyes traveled the length of her body as he spoke. “Better get some clothes on or I won’t be the only one who knows your secret.”

“What secret?”

“That you are indeed a true redhead.”

Happy New Year!

Published December 31, 2013 by Lorraine Nelson - Author

Cowboy for 2011

Yep, I sure love those hunky cowboys. 🙂

Another year has come and gone. It seems like the older I get, the faster time passes. My kids are getting older. My grandkids are getting older. And, alas, so am I. LOL

2013 has been a good year in many ways. I have my home and my family near, several close friends, and have made many new friends through social media. Through Facebook, I made contact with one of my best friends from high school who I hadn’t seen in over 35 years. She lives approximately three hours away and drove through one of the season’s worst snowstorms to visit. It was great to see her, to reminisce, and catch up. What a joy she is!

Despite cataract surgery and other health-related and personal issues this past year, I was able to release eight new titles, bringing my total to 22 books available. Three of those are short stories included in anthologies, but the rest are all mine. And this past year my sister, Sharon Wilson-Dupuis, and I realized a dream we’ve had since childhood. We always said that one day we’d be author and illustrator. Well, I wrote the books and she drew the covers for my new western series, The Hudson Ranch. The final book, Nathan, will release in January. You can see all my books listed with blurbs, excerpts, and reviews on my website: http://lorrainenelson.weebly.com

I sometimes bemoan my health problems, but because of them, I have the time to write, a hobby which I enjoy immensely. To know that you are reading my work, enjoying it, and asking for more, inspires me to keep going–to concoct another tale of romance. You all mean so much to me. Without you, my writing would have less meaning. Of course, my family would still read my stuff, but that doesn’t give my work the same validity. 🙂

In appreciation, I’m giving away an autographed print copy of Zakia and the Cowboy to one lucky commenter. Just share with me the highlights of your 2013 or your plans for 2014. Don’t forget to leave your email address so I can contact you. 🙂 Winner will be announced on Friday, January 10th.

I wish all of you the Happiest New Year possible. Take care of yourself and stay safe. Love you all!
